I'm going to be gone for the next few days up to the Phx area.  Some of ya'll know about the cancer I fought off two years ago.  If you don't, well it sucked real bad and cost me my marriage... but the marriage is a whole other ball of wax.  Anyhow, I'm going in for another procedure on Thursday for a check up.  I can't eat solid food for 29 hours and can basically only have clear liquids..  I'm hoping that it'll come back that I'm still clear, but just keep your fingers crossed if ya' don't mind.  And for those of you that need one, get a colonoscopy --->  IT SAVED MY LIFE AT 25 YEARS OLD!!!!!  Man up punk and get one .  Anyhow, I should be back down south after the procedure sometime Friday.  Thanks in advance and ya'll stay safe.

That's the screwey part.  I was getting on w/ Glendale PD and my bloodwork came back as iron defecient anemic.  Went to the VA in Phx -keeping in mind my discharge test showed nothing that seemed out of the ordinary, but I'm not a doc- and they did some test.  Confirmed the anemia and began the process of finding out why.  Didn't have any other symptoms of it and i was really -read: w/in 6mo of having it turn into full blown cancer- that they caught it in time.  The VA brought in a spec. named Steven Brown and he did an awsome job.  Yeah I had to deal w/ a bag for 3 months and it was very depressing, but I and manned up to it.  Hell, there are people that have to live w/ them and those guys have my respect.  Anyhow, they removed 6.5 ft of large intestine and here are some interesting facts.  The avg lg intestine weighs a couple pounds.  I went from 175lbs to ... ready??? ... 146lbs after my first surgery.  That's right folks, my intestine was so filled w/ cancer polyps that it weighed about 20+ pounds.  YIKES!!!  I also can't which means I get to burp a lot.  Man I can bust some good ones out now!!!!

Anyhow, all things considered I'm doing really well, I just can't eat any solid foods today and have to eat/ drink clear liquids.  I'm essentially trapped in my parents house b/c if I go outside I'll smell all the fast food joints and will want to kick someone's ass for putting that food shop w/in smelling distance of their house!!    Well time to make some Jello and drink a lot of gatorade.  Ya'll take care and I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers.   It does mean a lot.

Well i'm back from the hospital and groggy as hell.  those drugs... well they worked realy well.  sry for the typos for nwo.  Anyhow, good news is the cancer is gone and things are looking good.  bad news is they found two polyps that they took out to get examined.  doc says they look like normal ones and theres nothing to be worrieed about.  should have test results ina few weeks.  since I got good news outta this, I'm going to put a picture up of the gun I bought a while back as my present to myself if this turned out well.  (there's gotta be some kinda incentive to do these damn test!)  Anyhow, it's an ar-10a4 w/ a DD rail, ergo grip, Lupy Mk4 Ill TMR scope, and a magpul stock.  she looks nice... just gotta get some money for ammo now!    Mkay i gotta get some shuteye and let these meds wear off.  then its grubbing time for food.  Thanks guys and god bless.

I have Crohns disease and colitis and have a colonoscopy every 2 years. He sees my ass more than my wife does.

The OP is right. GO GET CHECKED! It may save your life! The anxiety is truly a lot worse than the test. The worst part about the test is the fasting and that's pretty easy.

BTW, my next one is January 11, 2008 Just scheduled it 2 days ago....

From one survivor to another - congratulations!

The "five years clean" feels even better, but it was a long road getting there. (Walter Reed still has my tumor, they discuss it in lectures...)

Take care of yourself, and enjoy the AR-10

There are three universities that did a study on me during my process.  I had over 800 polyps in my large intestine and was in the hospital for about three months throughout the entire process.  Oh well, that which doesn't kills ya', just makes you crap more.

That's why they did a case study on me.  My intestine weighed about 25-30 pounds!!!  I went from 170ish to 146 in four hours.  Beat that Jenny Craig.

Damn!  That asbestos pizza will get ya every time!

Sounds like you were close to the edge.  I only lost a couple of pounds after the first surgery.  The radiation kicked my ass harder than the knife work.  Compared to you, I had it easy.

The week in isolation was kinda scary though - "you are perfectly safe"... then they would run like hell!  Sent me home after a week, with instructions to "sleep in a different room from your wife / kids / pets for the next ten days". And my favorite "flush the toilet twice after use, and wipe down the seat".

I ditched the radiation crap... they told me about it and my answer was, "Nope... try again.  What else do you have??"  They ended up doing a very new surgery that gave me a 10% chance of having a "bag" for life.  Yikes... that woulda sucked.  Now I get checkups every year so things could be worse!!

I got my lab results back and I'm still cancer free!!!!    For those of you who don't want to have a camera shoved up your dairy-aire, there's a new way of doing the colonoscopy and it's via a tiny, disposable digital camera.  You do the same "fasting" thing, but now you can swallow this little camera thing, wear this belt (receiver for camera), and just take the belt back 7 hours later.  I'm a man and all, but ... yeah... that's still an EXIT ONLY!!!

Glad to hear that the cancer is gone!

At what age do they recommend a person get a colonoscopy?  I figured it was 50 or something so I've never really worried about it I guess...maybe I should bite the bullet and get tested anyway.

Yeah... I'm not sure what "age" you should begin, but my first one (not by choice really) was at the age of 25.  Kinda flipped my world upside down for a little bit, but that which doesn't kill ya' makes you stronger.
