Before you head out to the CG range I have some bad news. The Park dept. built a chain lnk fence across the front of the ranges about 50 feet inside of the old fence and gate. The new fence blocks all access to the ranges except to foot traffic. There is only (1) gate and it is centered on the covered range. If you want to use the pistol or 100 yard side ranges you have to park outside the gate and carry all of your stuff to the side ranges. The side ranges do not have any benches or cover. We use to set up our shade and use the back of our trucks for setting our stuff on. NO more of this, you will have to set your guns on the ground or carry them while you go down range. Carry all of your targets, guns, ammo etc. in and out on foot. The chain link fence does have one truck gate on the south end for the CG parks clean up truck to have access, but it is locked to the public. I have been trying to contact the parks and recreation dept. to voice my protest about this being done without any public input. Wait till the snowbirds get here, they are going to have a fit. This is one of the most poorly thought out things I have ever seen on a gun range. I will keep trying to get in contact with the parks dept. to try and resolve this. It would help if others that use the range do the same. These changes are going to send people back into the desert to shoot. The range willhave more trash left behind as the trash cans are outside the fence. It will take a long time to go down range at the 300 and 200 yard ranges holding everyone up. We used to drive our trucks down there and back. You could go down range and return by the time the 100 yard shooters were done, holding no one up. Not any more. Hiking from the small gate to the side ranges (50 to 75 yards) with your gear and having no where to set your stuff but the ground (unless you want to pack in and out a table and chair) is rediculous. Well I feel better now having vented. I will be venting some more when I talk to the Parks department. Thanks for your time |

I'm glad I renewed at Rio, I was about to give up my membership and use this range exclusively. By the time I carry all my stands, shade and tables over to the side ranges and back, there goes any time advantage I had using this range over Rio. They had better built a really high fence, if someone is going to shoot junk, they are just going to stand in the back of a pickup and heave it over the fence. Or they will just go leave their junk in the desert, unsure if that is really a better option. Yeah, I know they shoulnd't, but certain people won't care either way. |
