Did anyone else hear about the Tolleson officer who had several NFA items stolen from his vehicle while he was off duty eating at Burger Works on Thomas on March 17th? The NFA items were on loan to the officer from a local dealer.

Actually, it was my roommate who had the firearms stolen from his POV. Some were personal, some were on letterhead. I was there with him when it happened. My 1911 was in my vehicle as well, parked right next to his. I left mine due to CCW laws in AZ about establishments serving alcohol and carrying firearms. Maybe I need to write letters about the current law. None of us were drinking at the time, we had just stopped to get a quick bite to eat after participating in the St. Paddy's day parade downtown.

Unless you all advocate taking shotguns, rifles and SBR's in to eat with us, there really was not much we could do. Parking is mostly behind the building and we couldn't sit where we could keep an eye on the vehicle. We weren't in for more than 20 minutes, maybe less.

He lost a lot of stuff, including Trijicon and Steiner optics, personally owned NVG's, a bunch of tactical gear, GPS... In all, about $6K worth of stuff.

We were heading to the range after lunch, but it was a poor choice in places to eat. He also could have left some of the other gear at home, but we both worked late and had an early call for the parade and we just didn't unpack the stuff he didn't need. A costly mistake.

Some of you may remember I lost my P220 about 6 months ago when it was stolen from my vehicle while at work.

It sucks and we are both working to stem vehicular burglaries at both our jobs.

Please remember that you can't always stay with your firearms 24/7 and this could happen to any of us at any time. He feels far worse than any one of you could make him feel. I pray he doesn't end up looking down the barrel of one of his guns during a confrontation, or my 220.

As stated, some of these were on loan for trial and he'll end up paying for them, as I'm not too sure insurance will cover all the loss. None of these were issued weapons.

We were at the show this weekend to see if we could find someone walking around selling his gear. It was worth a shot.

Please keep it civil.

I don't know any of the detectives firsthand, but all the Tolleson guys I have met are really great guys and I'd be honored to have them back me up in a firefight, as I would back them up.

You know, of all the cops I know in any agency, all of them are stand up guys and not one is an ass, unless he/she needs to be on the job. I know I can be a real asshole when I need to be, as it should be.

Take care.

You can NEVER be too careful with guns in the car.

And, MAN!  You already had a Sig stolen???
I had a 1911 stolen years ago, and that was it.  No more guns left in the car for me.  I was fortunate enough to get it back - Phx PD took it off of some ESE.

I'd have found somewhere else to eat, or got food at a drive thru, or had someone run into a place and get food while the other guy stayed with the vehicle.

As for your 1911...  I bring my pistol with me regardless of the drinking establishment law.  By the way, that law doesn't apply to sworn officers in AZ.

Id like to think the beat cops are a bit more civil.Only dealt with one,but you would think the others would lead by example.

Wouldn't his agency pick up the tab?  I mean...  he'd probably get a slap on the hand for having them stolen from his POV.

But since the letterhead would have come from the Agency, I'd guess that they are responsible and would have to pay for them, and he might get a few days off unpaid.

Also - if you want to list any of the stolen items here, we could keep our eyes peeled.  Maybe a long shot... but...

rtech,
so I assume the car was locked up?    How did the thief get entry?  Was the stuff in plain view or all covered up?
