Hey all, My wife and I are exploring relocation options and the Flagstaff area, and AZ in general are possibilities. We have a boatload of equity in our house here in CT and will be looking for a smallish (2000 sq ft) house with a couple acres if possible. I'm a electrician by trade and I've done some network/desktop support as well. Both her sons live in CA but we're not moving there, LOL !

I'm looking for any resources that can help in our decision making and of course, info on CCW and the AZ gun laws. I've had my CT CCW for about 20 years and I see that AZ honors my CT permit so that shouldn't be a big problem, I hope.

Thanks

OK
Az gun laws are essentially none existent in the sense of restrictions, only federal restrictions usually apply.
Az is a open carry state, step on Az territory and you can carry open no licence required. There are some places you can't carry (open or CCW) primarily any place that serves alcoholic beverages, schools and court houses.
Az is a shall issue state for CCW, take an 8 hour class and you are good for 5 years, renewal is simple. Bad news is once you are an Az resident you must have an Az issued CCW, can't use your out of state permit.
Since Az is open carry once you have a CCW no need to worry about printing or accidental display of you carry piece.

Flagstaff is on the liberal spectrum of Az towns, big university town and liberal imports. Did any one tell you Flagstaff is COLD in the winter? Gets a lot of snow too (when we don't have a drought) and is at 6-7000 feet altitude.
Cost of living I can't comment but I'm sure you can find a home with some land given what Ct homes go for.

I have a place over in Prescott, warmer and less liberal than Flag but expensive.

Oh I almost forgot we have a lovable but dyslexic Az member here known as markm, when he sees your post he will welcome you with open arms and a big wet kiss but since he is dyslexic it will sound like he saying "take a hike you ignorant Yankee Az is FULL"
Just remember his little disability and your good to go..

I was born in Flag but live in Phoenix now.  The cool part about it is there are so many places to go shoot.

The housing is a little spendy there.  You might have to get a little further out of town, maybe 10 miles or so to get some acerage for a reasonable price.  Course if you bring out a large pile of cash then you can get whatever you want.

Rich was being nice when he said liberal.  What he means is theres a bunch of stinky nasty tree hugger hippies lurking all over and fouling up the place.  Flagstaff was basically founded on railroad and logging.  Hippies successfully shut down logging completely.  So now the forest is has been so overgrown that we have a very major forest fire every 2-3 years.

Thats the worst of it though.  If you can put up with reading about it and having to put up with the occasional hippie waiteress when you go out to eat.  You'll be fine.

I'm Rick V to further add to the confusion

If you are an electrician and want to find work as one,
you will be in for quite a shock when you see the low pay scale
for the average electrician in northern Arizona.

The highest pay scale in the area will be in Las Vegas
with Phoenix coming in a distant second place.

But if you do not want to live in the desert and want snow,
then Flagstaff or the Showlow area are nice.
