Link to the Bill?

I just sent this letter to my representative......
Sir, I am writing to respectfully request you vote NO if a vote comes up on H.R. 1022, now being introduced. It is an updated version of the 1994 assault weapons ban.

I am an avid recreational and competition shooter, and part owner of small arms   manufacturing plant here in Arizona. I am also a Combat Veteran, who served in the U.S. Army honorably from 1987 through 1998.

The problem I have with this legislation, or ANY bill, banning 'assault weapons', is it's based on hype and fear, not common sense. The people who will be hurt by this bill will be law-abiding gun owners such as myself. The truth is, an extremely small number of criminals ever use 'assault weapons' to commit crimes, and the few that do, would have done so regardless of any written law.

I'm asking you to vote NO on H.R.1022, because "We the Law Abiding Gun Owners" are a large part of "We the People". There is already the 10-25-Life laws in Florida, that should be nationally adopted to make the use of any gun in a crime a mandatory stiff sentence. If you want to cut crime on a national level, that would be a great bill to introduce yourself. Please don't endorse a sweeping ban which only hurts law-abiding gun owners, when the truth is, it's already been proven once not to do anything to reduce crime.

Thank You, for your service to the people.

Just fired off my e-mail to Mr. Flake and added this....

If guns are outlawed, only Outlaws will have guns.(I love this statement)
This also applies to so called "assault weapons". If they are outlawed,
the criminals won't care, they are breaking the law anyway by committing
the crime and another weapons charge will be the least of thier concerns.

I feel this bill is "chipping away" our rights under the Constitution,
first the "assault" type weapon..then the revolver..then the single shot,
where will it stop?, when we (the law abiding citizens) are reduced to
defending ourselves with a shovel?

had to edit out the part about military service in scottmilk9's post, I wasn't in the mil

If civilians allegedly don't need these types of guns, then why do police and military?  Civilians should never be outgunned by the .gov.  That's the whole reason for the 2nd amendment.

Hopefully you'll leave this out of any letter you write.  Otherwise, you'll do more harm than good.

How about this Quote from Thomas Jefferson:

"No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

Or this one:

"Its principles and forms had entered little into our former education. We established, however, some although not all its important principles. The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved), or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press."

I think all members of congress (more-so the Dems) need to be reminded of their duty's to up-hold the US Constitution, to which they swore an oath. And they also need to be reminded that Hitler and Stalin were Staunch proponents of Gun control. It allowed them to butcher millions of innocents.

Alright brothers, after emailing the entire AZ list of legislators on a Sunday morning no less, I've already gotten several replies, all of them positive, saying they agree with us "110%" and some even saying they are members of various gun owner organizations and will be voting this bill down if it ever hits the floor.

Took two seconds to copy the list from the website into Word, kill the columns of useless info, and paste the list of legislators into Outlook.  Another two seconds to write my feelings, so four seconds total to let these guys and gals know how the voting public feels.

Do your part!  I want to keep my bayonet lugs!

Here is G.Gifford's reply....

Dear Mr. Lum,

Thank you for contacting me about your concerns regarding gun ownership in our country. As a gun owner myself, I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. The Constitution is clear on this issue: we have the right to bear arms.

I own a gun because I believe in the right of every American to have guns for self-defense and hunting. All gun owners have a responsibility to handle their guns safely. That's why I support gun safety legislation that sets minimum regulations for safety locks and removes unsafe locks from the market.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about gun ownership with me. It is truly an honor to serve and represent you. Please don't hesitate to call my offices with any issues or concerns, and feel free to sign up for e-mail updates at www.giffords.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Gabrielle Giffords

Member of Congress
