Howdy folks
My wife and I are moving to Brenda in about 1 1/2 months.  Anyone here in that area?  What can you tell me about the area?  Specifically can I go out into the desert and shoot LOSE my Garand and SKS?  Ranges?  Packing.org tells me it is an open carry state.  How widespread is open carry?  Problems?
We are moving there to be with family and will be buying an RV and living close to family again.  A couple of weeks off, then look for work.  I know the wages won't compare, but a lot of other pluses.
We are originally from WA and moved to VA about 2 1/2 years ago.  Now AZ.  Does that make me a WAVA AZ?

Welcome aboard!

I'm not familiar with Brenda.  I can tell you that we're usually good with shooting in open desert UNLESS it's fire season.  Open carry is common.

No, the wages won't compare.    But we do have more fun out here!

Depends on what you do. Those in the medical field make out like a bandit because of all the retirees here. There is an ongoing shortage of RNs and the like, so they can ask for premium $$$.

I make a little more than national average in my field (network engineer), but I also work for a multi-national company and that helps.

wait... aren't you still self employed?

oh and it's hot out there and people will con you out of your uncomproable wages if you need AC repair

If that was directed at me in regards to my recent A/C repair thread, I would suggest saying nothing further since you haven't a single clue as to what is fair and not fair.  $285 for 20 minutes when the rate is $80 an hour and the freon is $40 is getting ripped off.  The total should have been $120, not $285.

You do the math.  If a movie theater advertised their tickets at $10 and when you got there they jumped the price to $25 just because you wallked into the lobby and saw the movie (they want another $15 since you saw the movie, even though they never showed the ending), how would you feel?

If this was NOT directed at me, you may resume normal posting and ignore this post

The popularity of open carry varies widely by location, and I have no idea where Brenda even is.

But yes, BLM land is open to any type of shooting unless fire restrictions are in place - then they turn their nose on explosives.

If you're ever down Phoenix way, PM me and I'll shoot you my phone number.  Dawn4x and Susan are coming back down soon, so we'll be having a big BBQ then and I'd like for you and the tactical wife assembly to come aboard!

Welome to the land of the free, bro!

HMMMM, well that got just a litle off track.
I always scrutinize bills and question any of my repair charges that I think are out of line, sometimes a mistake is made.  Somtimes otherwise.
I am not self-employed, I am soon to be voluntarily unemployed.
Brenda is off highway 10 West of Phoenix, near the border, about 50+/- miles east of Bythe, CA.
I am not a professional person and am near retirement age.  I do not know how professional wages compare here vs there.  I'm sure you are all worth your wages and like your chosen path.  I gave up chasing the almighty dollar a long time ago and am more interested in enjoying life on my terms.  I can only suppose the jobs I will be looking for will pay less than here.  No matter, I have everything I want, more than I probably need or deserve, and it probably costs 10X to live here versus there.
My small, small, old, old, old 2 bedroom apartment with a small dog here, is $1283/month utilities included.  And that rate only because I signed a contract 2 1/2 years ago and the building will be torn down starting January.  RV lot rent in Brenda is $875/year plus utilities.  Niiiiiice.
We will not be 'snowbirds' but living fulltime in an RV we are purchasing from family.
It looks as though the Wickenburg Sportsmens Club is the closest range and at $20/year is 10% of the lowest price one around here.  At that rate ($200+/-) here, you get an old indoor pistol range, about the same distance away.
Richardh247 thanks for the invite, I will contact you when we get there, always up for a BBQ.  I believe we know a couple of the same people, at least through the internet and this group.
Please keep any info coming, not much help searching the internet for Brenda.
I know it is hot and dry, here it is hot and humid, give me the dry.  Maybe someone will drift in that lives near there before this page drops out of sight.

That's what we call a snowbird that stays. Just remember that posted speed limits are different here in AZ. The number on the sign is the minimum speed you can go while turning. And always keep right except to pass. Good luck.

+1 for keep in the right lane except to pass. Or at least move over for other people trying to pass. Welcome.

Hey Richard!

You are so thoughtful to host another GREAT barbeque for us! I should be there in a few weeks, and look forward to seeing everybody again! I'll give a little more notice this time though. I still can't believe you were able to put such a great party together, on such short notice. Thanks again!!

Susan moved there this past weekend. She is back here this week to finish up some business, but she is officially an AZ'er now, and will go for good next weekend.

Oh...She wanted me to give you this message..."R-1, I am SO in for the Skydiving! Tell me WHEN!!"

You guys will have to put that together. Somehow, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane sounds like fun to her. (I don't get it.)

Anyway, sorry for the hyjack Herb! Hope to see you at one of Richards famous BBQ's!

Well hey there sweetie!  With such charming company as you and Susan, it is very difficult NOT to have a successful and fun BBQ.

I know you're going to miss Susan, but she's in good hands here.  Please give her my phone numbers, and tell her if she needs anything at all she need only to call.  And we will definately do the skydiving thing as long as I can find a tandem that will waiver my leg.

By the way:  more people die in aircraft accidents than do skydiving.  I wouldn't call it "a perfectly good airplane!"

Looking forward to seeing you and Sus again, Dawn!
