I just bought a Glock 27 .40 with 2 10 round mags and box from a coworker whos got orders to Germany...lucky bastard...anyhoo I bought his new Glock 27 with night sights and was wondering if there are any special things or quirks I should know about them. I have a SA XD40 and it runs good. I personaly love my 1911 best and just got this to help him out. Just know nothing about the Glocks always seemed like a joke compared to my 1911 Just my opinion please don't flame. So to get back on track anything I need to know about these? Any must have upgrades? Thanks

I'm sorry I don't have anything to offer your thread.....I'm just wondering why you posted in the ARIZONA "HOMETOWN" forum and not the "HANDGUN" forum?

Theres a few things about them...

They don't need cleaning.  The 27 will go just about anywhere you're willing to put it.  The grip doesnt get god awful if left in the AZ sun.  Doesnt feel as weird having plastic against your sweaty body as opposed to metal.  Good factory mags are readily available at most any gunshop and reasonably priced.

Other than that, it's another gun

People will tell you all kinds of things your Glock needs, extended controls, butt plugs, lighter connectors, heavier trigger springs, etc, etc.  I tell every new Glock owner that what the gun really needs is to be shot, a lot.  And quality training never hurts either.  After you've shot it, learned it and trained with it, if you still feel you need the addons then go for it, but to me stuff like extended controls are just a band aid for lack of training.

Oh, if it's a carry gun, night sights are worth the money.  I like the Meprolites, they're about $70 installed at Glockmeister.  If it's going to be a target pistol then you might like the 3.5 connector, but I don't like them on carry guns, more for legal reasons than anything else.

Good luck and enjoy the new pistol.  I've got two Glocks, a 22 and a 26 and I came from a 1911, High Power, Sig  background and I've become quite a fan of Glocks.

Edited to add:  I have to disagree with Topcrest, while they may not need cleaning as much as some other guns, they do need to be cleaned every few thousand rounds.  And DON'T over oil your Glock!  5 drops is all it takes.  Either read the manual or go to www.glockmeister.com and read the Glock oiling FAQ.  Over oiling a Glock is one of the few things that can make it malfunction.  And avoid lead bullets, stick to jacketed bullets.

Thanks I would have over oiled it cuz I clean the crap out of my 1911 after every shoot! Kind of anal about it. I will just shoot the piss out of it and see where I go then. I only posted in here cuz Arizona forum seems to be a nicer place to go. I don't get all this crap about how you suck cuz you don't know and then they start calling names then the thread gets way off topic. Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. Jim

Well, if truth be told I clean my Glocks after every time I shoot them.  My Dad taught me to shoot as a kid and if I let a gun go without cleaning it I risked losing the gun or the privilidge to shoot it.  So I clean and oil all my guns after shooting them, even the Glocks, even if it's only the bore and slide rails.  About every thousand rounds or so I'll detail strip them and really do a job.

My Glocks are my defense handguns, the 22 is my house gun and the 26 is my CCW piece.  They go with me to the range every time I go and they get cleaned and functioned checked after every shoot.

Dad's gone now, but somewhere he's watching me clean my guns (a few used to be his) and he's smiling.

As stated..

Avoid all aftermarket junk.  Sight upgrades are the only acceptable mod to a glock in my opinion.

You'll notice that most of the troubleshoot threads in the glock forum are from morons with aftermarket junk in the gun.

I do the same thing.  Just remember, the Glock is only top rack safe.  Don't put it in the bottom rack of the dishwasher.

I've got a Glock 27, In fact it was my first handgun I purchased.  It is now one of three Glocks that I have (27, 21, and 17)  I would say that it is my best shooter.  I decided to add the extended mag drop, extended slide release, 3.5 trigger and extra finger groove on the mags.  This is not do to lack of trainging, It makes things a lot faster.  You don't have to adjust your grip to drop the mag, (thats why I don't like my H&K as much) and the extended slide release just makes it easier.

"Jim...you suck...your a %^&#$@ for asking something everyone should already know...BTW when is it gonna rain?"

PS...don't be using "Arizona forum" and "nicer place" in the same sentence!!!!

Glock 27...good night sights...3.5 trigger and extended mag release make it a good combat shooter...factory mags only... IMHO

I thought Glocks were like .22’s.  You can clean them, but no one really does.

I usually clean mine every 10k or so.  Not so much clean as refinished to whatever color strikes my fancy at the time.

One addition I would strongly reccomend is Pierce Grip flooplates for the mags. They provide purchase for your pinky finger and in so doing greatly transform the pointability and recoil recovery for the gun; no small item as most folks find the recoil of the 27 a tad abrupt.

These floorplates will in no way compromise the reliability nor the concealability of the piece.

Thanks guys. The two mags already have the floor plates and it already has night sites so i think I am good to go.
