My brother lives in AZ and is thinking about making his first ever firearm purchase. What is the procedure? Is there a wait for rifles, does he need anythin in particular? Thanks! |
FFL / Gun Store: CCW does waive the NICS. To purchase a pistol from an FFL dealer you must have the $$, be 21, pass a NICS, and have a valid AZ id. Call for NICS usually takes 3 minutes. If the NICS is clean you take your new/used pistol home. No waiting period or limit on quantity purchased in so many days. If you have it in a holster you can wear it out the door and all the way home, open carry is legal. Rifle purchases are the same from an FFL only the age is lowered to 18. No registration or permission to possess cards. Private sale: Persons must be 18 years old for pistol or rifle. Transaction must be from one AZ resident to another AZ resident. Obviously both parties must not be a prohibited possessor(felon). No NICS is required. No notifying a LEO agency. No transfer of any registration what so ever. I usually prefer to deal with CCW holders so I feel that a NICS has been done for me. Of course a reciept is always a good idea as well. |
