I'm looking to buy a new home in Arizona. So far Flagstaff looks good but some local input would be helpfull. This will be a retirement home for a 50yo male eventually. I'm looking for someplace with plenty of shooting, camping & hiking opportunities. But also good restaurants, movie theatures, bars, & night life. Dont care at all about performing arts or sports teams. What communities should I be looking at? Closer to Cali would be better, becuase i'll be commuting for work the last few years. Driving to cali on my monday, sleep in the bunk room three nights then drive back on my friday. Flagstaff is a 6 hour drive. |
|
Only thing closer then 6hours to cali is Yuma. Talk about a shithole. Flag is nice, not as hot as lower AZ and snow in the winters. As far as hiking/shooting/being outdoors, this is Arizona it's all over the place. As far as nightlife, Phoenix is the only real option, Tucson coming in second. |
| AR15fan, you're likely to get a lot of "We're full!!" responses. Don't take them too seriously (well, ok--take them a little bit seriously). There is a lot of anti-CA sentiment in AZ because sooooo many CA folk are flooding our communities. There is a genuine concern that CA gypsies (as I like to call them) are erroding AZ's conservative voting base and inflating the real estate prices to extraodinary levels. |
Don't let them discourage you. We have just had our realastate market ruined by the CA commie/libs and it tends to piss everybody off. Why not find a job in AZ then you can live where ever you want. I have only a couple request: When you get here you are required to open carry at all times legal. Send as many Kommiefornia libs home as you can, preferably a truck load. I have been recently educated. (Thanks for the FYI buddy) AZ is FULL please look elsewhere. |
I can see the reason for the political concern. But the "inflated" real estate prices are making the original Arizona owners rich. So why is that a bad thing? As for Colorado, too cold, expensive and bad gun laws. Nevada, only Clark county has a night life and that county has some bad gun laws. |
For some people it is not a bad thing. For some it is. Not everyone is an original owner. For example, a lot of people have been priced out of the market. It sucks to be caught by suprise when house prices have doubled and all of a sudden your new family can't afford to buy a house that isn't in the barrio. Also, outragiously inflated prices are an ominous setup for a market pop. There is much debate about the existance of a real estate market bubble. Although I'm not terribly concerned about that (for my situation), I do see parallels with the dot.com bubble. Few people saw that coming either. Personally, I think that healthy and reasonable appreciation is prefered over fast, rapid appreciation. I'd say most poeple want a home to have a "castle" and improve their quality of life, not to get rich. Crazy appreciation is great if you're flipping homes every year. Most people aren't looking to do that with their homes. I am many times more concerned about the political issue. |

Hey AR15fan, I really like Flagstaff. A lot. I've seriously been considering a place there for when I retire too. About 4 - 6 years depending on the final divorce settlement. Lots of people where I work are very interested in northern Arizona as an alternative to California after retirement. |
Not really. If we were to sell our house, we wouldn't be able to buy much with our profit because all the other homes are over-priced. There are some of us that were saving for a nice house only to have Commiefornians and RE investors invade us faster than illegal aliens after Bush's public amnesty announcement and drive up the prices of the homes on the market. This is forcing us out of AZ or farther out of the valley/city making it difficult to commute to work. |
Yup I was working on fixing a few credit issues to buy a house. Then when I was almost done and I started shopping for a financer and a house everything I was looking at 9 months earlier were way out of my price range. I actually took my list of homes that I looked at to set my price range and checked their current status and 70% are now rental properties. The majority of the other 30% are being sold by a different realty company for a quick buck and a gouge to the rest of us. So I figure I'lll wait and hopefully as my income rises the market will come back down a bit to meet it. I normally don't wish ill of others but, I hope the market dives and these people get cought with a debt greater then the value of the house. But in the mean-time I am completely fvcked out of buying a house.

I don't get it. I understand that you would want to keep out the libby voting, soccer mom hippy, demorats out of AZ but if a CA resident that is pro 2A and is a right voting, conservative, you would keep out also? I would have thought that you would encourage that to off balance the influx of demorat. |
Force of habit. I was in favor of limiting migration ten years ago. |
I don't think anyone disagrees that pro-2A folk are welcomed. I was just trying to make a point the point that some comments shouldn't be taken too seriously, IMO. AFAIK, the "stay home" comments are generalized and usually not applicable to fellow ARFCOMers. However, I only speak for myself. |
because all too often ca residents show up here and go into culture shock when they realize that they no longer have laws governing every single aspect of their personal life, and they then lobby to get more laws passed so it can be just like home, but with some saguaros |
In my experience even "conservative" Californians, aren't. They come from a Big Brother culture and it nearly always leaves a deep mark. |
Ya know, I see where you're comming from on that. My thoughts are mixed... |
|
Now I'm beginning to wonder it this is a troll topic. He linked this thread from this CA Hometown thread. Say it ain't so AR15fan! |
Flagstaff is full of gay liberal hippies! ![]() So yes, I can see why Kalifornia folk would like it there. And yes Arizona is full, try Colorado.
|
As long as you don't vote democrat , bring all the gun lovers no liberals . Where do you live in ca now , climate might be a concern. You like ar15s and if you move here you can buy more ar15s , you need a least 20 living in arizona different sizes , looks ect . |
