I just purchased my fist firearm on this board and I'm not sure about how to transfer it.  The guy I bought it from is a private party.  Can he send it directly to my contracted FFL dealer or does he have to take it to a dealer to send to mine.

I've asked a couple of dealers here and they tell me it is the later but they don't sound real sure.

Any advice?  Anyone recomend a dealer to do the transfer (Phoenix area)?

TIA
Greg

Scott...are you out there?

If you are in AZ receiving the firearm from out of state, it needs to go to a FFL.
Legally, it is not required to ship from an FFL, to AZ. However, it is the "choice" of some FFLs, not to accept the firearm unles it comes from a FFL.

There are a couple dealers here who will accept a firearm from a private party. AZexarms is one and ATF on Baseline and McClintock is another one I've heard will do it.

A private individual can mail to a dealer - even an out of state dealer.  HOWEVER:

1.  That individual should have a signed-in-ink copy of the dealer's FFL and should keep this filed away;

2.  While this is okay under Federal Law, state/local/city/etc laws may be stricter and require dealer-to-dealer.

What state is this individual located within?
