Anybody have any experience filling out this stupid application for a SBR? For a short form it's pretty damn confusing and the forum fAQ leaves a lot of blanks in the info, I don't want to screw this up just to have my paperwork get kicked back3 months from now so I can start over.

I'll buy lunch for an hour of your time.

Call Jane in MCSO's ATF liason office (6028765483). She'll send you the county forms for Sherrif Joe to sign (or tell you how to come get them).

Then with the county forms, TWO copies of the ATF Form 1 or Form 4 (depending on whichever you need), a 2x2 passport sized picture, and your birth certificate or driver license you waltz into 201 W. Jefferson in Phx and go into the Civil Office (or whatever they call it this week - it's right inside the door past the gun-detectors). If you haven't already been fingerprinted by a local agency for this purpose, then they will fingerprint you there. Hand all your stuff over to them and waita couple weeks. Yes/No - come get your stuff. Send the county form off with the ATF forms/pic/fingerprint cards/$200 and wait some more. Yes/No - put your gun together or buy it from whomever.

There are variations on this if you can get a chief leo to sign off. Some won't touch it and refer you to the county sheriff. Some may.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

Mudbug,

What part of the valley you from?? I could help you fill it out if you need help, I'm in Mesa. I can also get you all the forms if needed and walk you through the steps. You will need the receiver with the serial # that you are going to use for the build.

Let me know,

well I think I got it figured out, but I wouldn't mind just quickly asking some questions on the phone to make sure.

REMEMBER!!! When you print out the form, it needs to be printed front/back.  Not 2 separate sheets.  ATF can be a real assholes and can turn down your paperwork because of it.

Also, you'll need to provide a fingerprint card and a passport photo to Sheriff Joe, too.  They're gonig to keep it... so have extras.

Did you know they charge $8.00 to fingerprint you?!?  What a crock!  I had to do 8 cards 3 weeks ago!  And they only take CASH!

Be prepared.

I saw some threads on forms being turned down for writing under 16" for barrel length. I guess they now want you to be specific. Might want to check on that.

Thanks guys, I read the threads on those issues also so I'm prepared to print them front and back, and for barrel length I put 7 - 15 inches.

What 7-15 - boy an extendable barrel that's really neat - If it was me I'd put down whatever barrel you have to start and after approval you can file additions to barrel length or caliber changes.

My UZI was registered in .22LR 9mm and 45ACP - Not that I'm an expert but I don't believe in cofuz'in the hired help with technical stuff when all you want is a rubber (or real) stamp of approval.

I believe that it's recomended to put a range of barrel lengths and calibers so that I can actually use this lower for 9mm shorty w/ a 7 1/2 barrel that can take a suppressor, or a 11 1/2 inch 5.56 barrel, or what ever falls within that range. So I could actually build 2 or more short barreled uppers in different calibers. I listed 9mm, .45, 5.56mm.

I thought for caliber the way to go was :   MULTI

i think they are looking for less vague answers, but I'm not really sure, this is my first, and all I know is what I read.
