Who knows of someone that does good work at a fair price? I need the front strap of my 1911 frame checkered, and thats one of the few things I don't do myself. I was going to see what Tom at Weapons Works wanted, but decided to check here first. Anyone with any ideas? Maybe even in Tucson if the price is right. I have friends that go down there all the time. Anyway, let me know.

Step up and buy a checkering file and a guide from Brownells.

I want to do the same thing to my Kimber Custom II.

Let me know, what you end up using.

The fine detail and patience required for checkering is probably beyond my reach. Plus, I checkered a stock once about a year ago, and the pain in my hands was terrible. Carpal Tunnel, multiple fractures and other injuries make working with my hands somewhat painful. But, I would still love to learn.

EGW does a really great job machine checkering front straps. They set up and run them once a month. If you time it just right your frame gets there the day before they run them, and you could get it done in a couple days. Just call and find out what day they're doing a run.
