... Missed it last year, was working out of state. I'm predicting the first real monsoon rainfall in the Valley to be on or about July 16 next month.

Naw, the huge thermal from the giant concrete heatsink will keep the monsoons at bay until at least August 2nd.

I will predict July 10 for the monsoons to hit the Colorado
River valley.

I predict that we get the big white puffy clouds, high winds, blowing dirt and no rain.

That's what we've been getting the last few years.

It's to hot,  to rain here anymore. Masive population growth and lots of new concrete.

A storm only counts if it hit's the whole valley. Not just Mesa and Gilbert.

So, I predict July 6th! For complete valley down pour.

There is a conspiracy with all the migrant lawn care workers. Whenever they see rain clouds building up they all point their gas blowers at them and blow them away.

I have yet to figure out the exact reason for them to do this. Maybe it's less work for them not having to clean up after a big monsoon thunderstorm.

Isn't there a rule of thumb, like exactly 2 weeks after the Cicadas start buzzing or something?

June 27, 1755.

A lot of the late monsoons is caused by the upward blasts of heated air caused by all you tannerite shooters.

Doesn't seem like we've had a monsoon at all the last four or five years.  Given our drought situation, I'm predicting we won't have anything significant this year either...

... Technically, meteorologists do not consider them monsoons. However, we do increase humidity and the mountains usually get rain every day until the “season” is over. The heat island often keeps the rain out of the Valley. Sometimes you can see the storms split right around us on Intellicast radar

My wife is from West Virginia (loves rain) and I have to listen to her complain every day the storms pass us by and we don't get rain.

We'll just have to visit Prescott more often...

... I heard them today.

... Cicadas.

... Ancient indigenous inhabitants of the southwest knew that they preceded the rains by about 14 days. Puts my estimate really close to target.

... woohoo, my favorite time of year!

I noticed tonight my garbage can had smudge marks in the dust like we got our first hint of rain and dust.  I was inside all day so I dunno.  First cicades I heard was right when WW posted his message.   I'm gonna call for 7/4/2004 as our first "neato" monsoon day though.

Driving home as the sun is setting and visibility goes to 200' is one of the first cool memories I've got of moving to phoenix.

hey carbine10, you're near me, did you get any water droplets on your place today?
