How's the job market out there?  With any luck I'll be getting a CS degree in December, and am seriously expanding my job search to other areas of the country rather than just the midwest.  Due to my firearm interests, California is pretty much ruled out, and when I went through on vacation the Phoenix and Tuscon areas seemed like they might be OK places to live (not sure if I'd really like it, but what the heck, its worth a look at).

Any tech firms out there that are hiring (even smaller, local ones)?

Tucson is pretty nice they where jusy ranked number 9 for best cities to live in by Mens Health Magazine.  I plan on staying here, Im building a house here so I feel its a good place to live.  I'm looking for a job in the aviation field myself.  I'm a jet engine mechanic now so I hope I can find a related field here, I just dont where to look.

Thanks WinstonWolf....but my, and my friends' experience with Boeing is that Boeing doesn't like to even look at new grads unless they have a better-than 3.5 gpa....and I don't  While I'd love to work with 'em, the only way I'd have any luck is if I knew someone highly placed who can influence hiring decisions.

At this point I'm actually thinking a smaller company would be a good place to start off, work for a few years, then try for a job with Boeing or Lockheed or General Dynamics, etc.

I *really* want to eventually end up doing avionics related embedded systems -- seems to me like that would be an area full of challenges, and would be interesting to me, unlike being a system admin somewhere (no offense ment to any sys-admins out there).

Look into Mesa-Air. They own/operate America West Express and I think they're hiring in Tucson.

I think AZ was ranked as the 2nd best job market in the country last month with tech jobs growing faster than any state other then Nevada.
