| I have just retired at age 60 and my wife and my teenage daughter are considering moving to Scottsdale,Fountain Hills,Carefree or Cave Creek areas. The girls are into English riding and eventing. I am looking forward to finally having the time for the shooting sports and hunting. If anyone could give me any tips on best housing locations and any info on the local high schools, training barns and shooting/hunting.I would really be grateful. |

I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. I'm guessing you want to have your own corrals? maybe even an arena? Way East of Pima RD on Dynamite RD is an area called "Rio Verde" absolutely beautiful lots of mesquite trees. but expensive. lots of horse folks live out there. not much in the way of stores near buy. We are doing Kitchen cabs for a builder just south of Care Free. The builder is "Toll Brothers" I am impressed with their homes. In that subdivision the homes start around 500.000. Great place to live tho. Mike |
| Thanks for the imput I will contact Toll Brothers and see what they have to offer. I think that Tonto Verde might be too isolated for us. We are still kicking around the idea of a horse property but I think my wife would like to board the horses at a training barn where she and my daughter could get lessons, ride, and make some friends.I am looking for a chance to do some more shooting hopefully without driving too far.. |
| Mike, Thanks for the offer on the housing info. We are looking to get a flavor for the communities I mentioned, schools ,shopping, crime stats all the usual stuff. The house should be somewhere around 2500 to 3000sq.ft. with a pool in a good area, a view and a decent sized lot would be a plus. bostonirish67, Welcome to Arizona! Fountain Hills and Scottsdale are overpriced and high taxes. Carefree and Cavecreek are pretty pricey too. May I suggest far North Phoenix. North of the HWY 101 to Carefree Highway. West of Scottsdale Rd to Cave Creek Rd. I have a friend that's CEO of Peter Piper Pizza. Him and his wife have horse property around Tatum Blvd. and Dynamite Rd. Lots of horse property around there. My son is graduating from Pinnacle High School this year. This would be the high school for that area. The school is state of art and is four years old this year. Paradise Valley school district #69. The past four Fiesta Bowl winners have practiced at Pinnacle High. About 90 percent of the student bodies parents make six figure income and up. Lots of North Scottsdale kids go to Pinnacle. As for shopping and entertainment. The new Desert Ridge Mall at Tatum Blvd. and Hwy. 101 are a real hot spot in the Valley. There is a brand new JW Marriot just North of Desert Ridge Mall. It's the largest resort in Arizona. Most of this area is all new construction. Some high end horse properties. I'm an A/C technician and get to see it all. Arabian horses to stables with olympic size pools. Zip Codes for this area 85050, 85054, 85331, & 85262. Also some of this Northern area has Carefree or Cavecreek mailing address's but are in Phoenix boundries. Also Toll Brothers just started building a new edition just down the road from Pinnacle High. Something like Deer Valley Rd. and 40th St. Hope this helps out. If I had the money I would move to this area. I live just south of it. You would also be close to Ben Avery Shooting Range. It's located at HWY I-17 and Carefree Hwy. Lake Pleasant and Lake Bartlet are also close to this area. Good hunt areas close by too. Coyote, rabbit, Dove and Quail. For big game hunt permit tags most good areas are in North Central to North East Central. Prescot to Flagstaff to Mogion Rim. Deer and Elk. |

I'd have to agree with Carbine 10! That is a good area! If you want the most bang for your buck though you might want to look into the west valley, around Goodyear and Buckey! I've worked out here for 10 years and this is the new place to be! It's growing fast out here but you can still get houses with acreage pretty reasonable plus you can still drive down the road and go shooting in the desert! Horse property is plentiful out here also with a lot of horse people and stables! |
