Does anyone know who the CLEO is for Maricopa County and if he will sign off on C3's? If so what does a CLEO look for in making that decision?

Thanks for the help !

That would be Sherrif Joe. No problem getting a sign off for NFA. Only thing is, you have to take it down in person and pick up in person and they are saying UP TO 60 days for the turn around, I did 2 forms back in Nov that took 3 weeks to the day. I guess it all depends on when you get them in and when they do the run.

The address is:
Civil Division (Lt. Jones office)
102 W. Madison St.
Phx, Az 85003
(602) 256-1840
(you enter on Jefferson St.)

I got mine from Cheif Bobby Joe Harris in chandler.

He's effectively retired now, so I don't know if his successor will continue this courtesy.

nfa-user : Thanks for the detailed response. I wasn't sure if it would be straight forward or if it would be a huge hassle. Sounds like a go!

Bad news. Lately the MCSO has been saying that the turn around time is 3 months. My form 4 has been there for 9 weeks so far.

More bad news: when I was picking up a couple of toys at The Armory I was told the wait is closer to four months.

Luckily I still have a signed form four on file at the Armory with a couple of months left before it expires. Now I just need to decide what to get next.

Of course and if I was smart I would have five or six instead of just one but I never thought the wait would go from two weeks to sixteen.

... Are there viable options to the MCSO?

... I'd be willing to drive to Tucson or Flagstaff if the timeline were more reasonable.

I’m sure some will let me know if I’m wrong but if you live in Maricopa County you need to either get a CLEO from county sheriff’s office. I don’t know what their legal standpoint is here in the state but my Class three dealer did not even consider the option of sending me to my cities chief LOE for a CLEO.

I've had no probs w/ MCSO lately.  I just got a few f4's back from ATFE that the armory mailed in back around february.

is the check they do the same as it is for a CCW permit?
or is it more intensive, and are they more selective?
I have been arrested a few times in my youth, but nothing that had me fail NICS, and i was OK'd for Top Secret clearance and PRP for Nuke related duty in the Army, and i was also cleared to get my CCW.

If you've got an interesting history, then disclose it to MCSO in their little form, you CAN write on the back.  If you let them know everything in your past on the form, and there are no suprises, then you're good to go, usually.  Just be honest.  If you can pass a 4473, you can get a sign-off in MC.
