I was looking for concrete mixers in the 1000 pound plus capacity ranger and found truck mountable 1-3 yard mixers. Reading into these it seems like when someone needs just 1-2 yards of concrete delivered and they are sent a full size truck they end up paying quite a bit more per yard than if they requested most of a full truck load. I started wondering what kind of business potential would exist as a small batch delivery service and hoped someone here would have some insight.

Our family has been in the construction supply business for 4 generations now. We used to run 3 different mix on site trucks when I was a kid. Unfortunately, in today's market, we run zero concrete trucks.

Between the cost of fuel, materials, and everyone under the sun thinking you should be offering free delivery because their amazon prime gets them that; it's hardly worth the effort.

The biggest problem with small load concrete delivery is dealing with customers.

Most of those customers are going to be home owners, not contractors, who know little to nothing about concrete.

Typical situation: You pull up. Nothing is formed, no wheelbarrow in sight. Customer assumes you bring concrete dump in a spot and they have a finished project just watching it dry.

Concrete is pretty cutthroat anymore. I honestly don't think you'd be able to get in the game that way and make any profit trying to come in any cheaper than the small delivery upcharge rate.

Thanks for the feedback. My initial enthusiasm for this idea died down after a few days and your post reinforced that.
