I have been to two OGCA meetings as a guest. Now it is time to join or move on.
I was at the last OGCA, I think it was in May. Saw some nice displays, and for the most part everyone pleasant. Didn't see any "deals" , actually saw some high prices. Example, a box of Remington 225 .22 Golden Bullets for $35.00. (Sold at WalMart for $9.97 when they have them). Bulk 500/555 .22 for $70.00. Again, these run $21 to $28 at Walmart. If I want to get gouged on ammo or items, I can go on line to Armslist, EE, Goodmans, etc. Kinda hard for me to justify a $40.00 + membership just to have the privilege to pay high prices to other members. And the $10.00 guest charge did not go toward the membership dues. Another concern about membership is that they require date of birth and social security number. What do I have to hide? Well consider that identity theft is a reality, the idea of having my ID in another computer system that who knows has access to, that is a concern in today's environment. So, prop me up here with some advantages to membership in OGCA. |

I think if you attend OGCA shows, you will see firearms for sale that you probably won't see elsewhere, or at least at your usual gun shop. The gun shops with which I am familiar have new firearms and a pretty crappy selection of used guns. If you want to collect pre-1960 S&W revolvers for example, you just aren't going to see many at gun shops.
As far as your social, I don't know. I am pretty sure it is everywhere anyway. Just my $.02. |
