Sounds like he is a strong candidate for VP.

I follow politics fairly close but know jack about him.

Any of yall Ohioans have any thoughts?

If they (Romney camp) are doing it because they think he can deliver Ohio they better think again...good guy...very plain & vanilla a safe pic that is probably too safe.....

It is Rob Portman, not Bob and the above analysis is spot on.  Very upstanding fellow, but would not stir up the base like the Romney camp needs.

And his loss here in the state would not be a good thing either. Romney needs a charismatic pitbull right now.

Whether or not it would help in Ohio or nationally, he's a solid guy.  A friend of mine worked for him and I got the sense that he's the genuine article.  As far as shooting, hunting and other cultural indicators (not sure if that's the appropriate phrase but you get the drift) are concerned, he's not just doing it for a photo op.  He is who he is and doesn't put on a costume for politics.

portman is a very analytical guy, policy wise, reminds me of mitch daniels - not a showman, but digs into the numbers...   as far as i know he's a stand-up guy on our gun rights, w/out a doubt..  he won the senate seat in a landslide...   not sure if he's the best pick for romney or not, ...it seems like having a showman is more important for these things unfortunately...

Portman is 100% one of us, but is also probably too tied to Bush to help.  His foreign policy creds would be a boost to anyone.

PS: I too had the plain vanilla view of him but found this earlier this summer.

Guess he is keeps things close to his vest.
