I have a question about conducting CCW classes in Ohio. I'm certified as an OPOTA firearms instructor, and I'm interested in teaching CCW classes. However, the OPOTA course doesn't really get into instructing CCW classes, so I was wondering if there is a set course that needs to taught? Also, what...if any...paperwork is needed? Also, any tips or other advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I am an OPOTA instructor also and have taught a few friends the class.

I used the CCW Manual from the Attorney General as a guideline.  Here is where you can download the manual.CCW Manual
I made up a certificate to give my buddies after the class that stated they attended a 12 hour CCW class hosted by me and also gave them a copy of my OPOTA certificate to turn in with their application. I don't know if that's necessary but you could check with your local Sheriff's office.

If you need anything else feel free to ask here or IM me.

Dont need the OPOTA cert with the CCW class completion cert; just put your OPOTA info on the CCW cert that you give them.  Just make sure that someplace on the students document that it says all the jargon about "...the instructor of this class certifies that it covers ORC......blah blah blah" .  Then, give me their guns and let em go vigilante some crack heads.

At one time, there was a lesson plan for CHL classes available from OPOTA.  Call Doug Daniels in the firearms unit and see if they still have it.

Depends on what the sheriff will accept.  OPOTA or NRA instructor status should be good to go.  NRA instructors have a license number they put on certificates.
