What is your opinions or experiences in this scenario,
I have a son who is 19 and has his own place, I know it isn't legal for him to buy a handgun but could he get in trouble for having one at his house. He live in the sticks and not too far from a known party hangout and right off a main road so I would feel a little better if he had a handgun nearby.
Could he get in trouble if a deputy pulled in and saw him shooting a handgun on his property?

Buy him a shotgun like a mossberg 500 or a Remington 870 in the home defense setup!

I really didn't think it was allowable but was hopeing for a private property loophole that I didn't know about. My name can be added to the long list of people disgusted with what a 18 year old law abiding adult can and can't do.
He does have a few long guns and even though its been that way for as long as I can remember, its depressing that 19 isn't old enough for a pistol.

Is he a responsible adult?  Legaly he is an adult so its a contradicting law.  I thought it was legal to own a handgun at age 18, just not legal to purchase from ffl till 21.

I thought this, too.

That is how I got my Ruger MkII at 18.

So in Ohio there is no exemption say for a father giving his 18-20 yr old children a pistol as a gift?  I always thought if the parents gifted adult children age 18-20 a handgun it was legal.  I had a .44 mag when I was 19.  Never thought a thing about it.  Used to take it to a range all the time an nobody ever said boo.  And don't worry, I'm sure the statute of limitations has run out on that, I'm 45 now.
