I just put a down payment on my first suppressor today, and now I'm trying to figure out if I will be able to get the form 4 signed by the Sheriff.  I've gotten mixed responses from local gun shops.  I realize I could just create a trust and skip all the BS, but I would rather just get the signature and be on my merry way.  However, if push comes to shove and this guy won't sign off, I am willing to go the trust route.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Wayne County Sheriff will sign off?  If not, who have you gone through to get your trust set up?

Thanks in advance.

Here's the contact info:
Wayne County Sheriff Directory
Call/e-mail and get it from the horse's mouth.  I have asked one of the Captains before regarding a potential SBR purchase and was told that it would be "no problem" to get the form signed.

Do you have your CHL?  If so, be sure to mention that - they are very pro-CHL.  Also probably adds to the "comfort factor" for the Sheriff a bit.

If you don't have your CHL yet, well then hurry up and get it!

Honestly, the best course of action for anyone wanting a sign-off anywhere is to go in and meet
the Sheriff or Chief face-to-face.  How would you feel in today's political environment to answer
the question, "Will you sign?" over the phone, or worse, in writing?  How would you feel about having
it posted all over the internet?  This is their career, and their future depends on not ruffling too many
of the wrong feathers.  Yeah, I know it is all BS, and you shouldn't even need a sign-off, or it should
at least be "shall-sign", but a little tact can go a long way.  As has been mentioned, having your Ohio
carry license is good, having a C&R FFL is also helpful, because then you are a "federally licensed
firearms collector".   It is easier to say that as a federally licensed firearms collector you are required
by law to have a signature for certain National Firearms Act items to be lawfully transferred, than it
is to just say that you want a suppressor.

Don't know about Wayne co. But Have heard that here in Montgomery co. the sheriff will sign off on SBR and Full Auto but he won't sign for a silencer. I don't know if that is his opinion or state wide.

Thanks for the tips.  The S sort of HTF at work this week so when I get time I'm going to head over to the local PD and see if I can get it done there.  If not I'll try the sheriff's office.  I have my CCW and have no problems talking face-to-face with anyone so hopefully I won't have any problems.  Thanks again.  I'll update once I get the signature.
