Can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction regarding trunk gun laws in Ohio?

I would like to keep a shotgun or possibly rifle in the trunk at all times with some ammo but i do not want to risk a prison sentence for it. What are the rules concerning ammo storage ect.

Thanks

No loaded mags, no loaded guns. Keep in trunk, should be good to go.

+1, That pretty much covers that.

And remember a CHL only covers handguns. So you still can't have loaded rifle mags even if you have a CHL.

At present the law says a loaded magazine or speed loader makes the weapon loaded.  A loaded clip does not.  This makes the SKS, especially the shorty or Para model, the ideal truck rifle as it can be loaded very fast from a 10 round clip.

what chuck said.

stripper clips or "enbloc" clips may be transported w/ cartridges in them.  but, of course, they may not be inserted into the firearm.

other than that there is no restriction on how loose ammo should be transported - it can be in the ammo box, in a gun case, ..etc., as long as it is not in mags or in the chamber of a firearm (of course CCW is an exception, w/ it's own set of restrictions).

i'd also suspect that it would be perfectly legal to transport a lever-action rifle in the trunk w/ the cartridges in a stock saddle.

Stock saddle is neither a magazine nor speed loader the only two prohibited means of carrying ammo.  Anything not prohibited is perfectly legal.

Kinda sorry I sold my PRC SKS carbine years ago!
