Ok so I am thinking of posting FTF my loaded 1911 tactical for a Glock.    What is the legality and liability of a FTF in Ohio?   I would not worry much about a rifle but Handguns seem to have thier own rules?   Any imput?

I have never heard of any special rules for handgun sales in Ohio.  Don't sell to a minor/felon/nutjob/out-of-stater and you should be OK.

As long as it is from one Ohio resident to another Ohio resident, it is just like selling a stick. Money-Gun-Good.

A couple of recommendations:
1. Proof of residence AND age, Ohio DL works great (should be 21yrs or older) Technically, in a straight trade, 18 and over, but i would NOT go there.
2. Their info and signature on a bill of sale. Get it off the DL and i like to note the DL #. ( If they do something stupid with that gun, then YOU have an out).

Skip this step.

You have no liability for their actions and you are not required to create a paper trail.  So don't.

"I sold it so some guy." is a perfectly acceptable response to any question.

What Chuck said, skip the personal gun registration suggestion.  You don't need it.

I totally disagree....Why not keep a paper trail.  I won't sell a gun without the buyer providing me with a DL.  I have people walk away from the sale due to this.  Sure, I lost a sale but I sleep better at night knowing I did my part to keep a gun out of the hands of a turd.  When BATFE knocks on my door doing a Trace on a gun used in a crime, I am going to do my part as a citizen to help them find the guy who used my old gun to commit a crime.

A BIG + 1

As an indvidual seller, you are not a dealer or a cop and you are not entitled to the buyer's confidential information.

I have no problem providing Drivers License, etc. to a reputable dealer as part of the sale but if I'm buying from an individual,  I am not giving my confidential information (like Drivers License, SSN, etc) that could be used as a tool to steal my identity or credit.
