Some us were talking about a backpacking trip a while ago. Now that the weather is not freezing who's in? No location yet. I am itching to try my GHB and would not mind going somewhere that we JEEP into. |

Wildcat hallow has 5 and 15 mile trail and is national forest so you can camp anywhere. (recommend carrying your water for the weekend there's lots of "relics of Industry" around. Zelesky (sp) state forest is right next to Lake Hope state park out side of Nelsonville. you have to camp in there campgrounds but have potable water along the way. there lots of interesting stuff like the old Iron furnace, oil drilling sights, little coal mines and homesteads to look at. along the way the trails are roads from when the area was farmed and were abandoned around the depression. bonus the parking lot is very near the beach! |
| Zainesville has Ohio power recreation land but I havnt been there for years. I mostly just fished there. I dont think you can go offroading though. Richland Furnace would be a good place for camping and 4 wheeling. Wayne National is another but I dont think you can take any vehicles on the trails. |
| Would anyone be up for a trip down to Red River Gorge. No shooting or four wheeling but maybe more of a great trip to test the BOB and camping/survival skills. It is about a 2 hour drive from Cincinnati, and east of Lexington KY.Ohio AR15 members really need to get together for a campout,no matter where it is at. |
Dont worry, wherever we go I'll pull you and your kayak with my quad if yours is still down for repair.
|
Quad's running, just drips a bit of coolant. I didn't find a kayak, the shitheel in Cincy sold it out from under me so I'm still on the lookout. |

Zaleski state forest isn't a bad place to backpack except that it gets a bit crowded in good weather. If you go to Portsmouth, the Scioto trail is pretty cool, the first big hill is a killer, pack light! Also if you can avoid the horseback sherrifs, the back parts of Ohio Power are pretty cool and remote. cheers, Mike |
Might I suggest Ohio's largest State Park... Shawnee State Park. 60+ thousand acres...some bad ass trails that, if the backpacker finds to technical are criss-crossed by paved roads and gravel fire roads. Hiked a second time last year with less gear and it was a blast...again. Both times I NEVER came across any other hikers though I did run into a couple vehicles using the roads. www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/shawnee.htm |
| I would be up for a trip to Shawnee.I have always wanted to get out there and backpack.I would like to do it before it gets to be above 80 though.I may go down to Red River Gorge for a solo two nighter this weekend. It is suposed to be a little cold at night, but I think it is perfect backpacking weather. |
