What's the best way of transfering one of my ARs to my wife and document her ownership as of a specific date?

first of all, why all the trouble, just give it to her. If you must have some sort of evidence, sell it to her and make out a legal looking receipt with a date on it. Keep it in a strong box. Or, if you are an FFL or know one really well, have them do a transfer to her like you are receiving one from out of state. it might cost $20-30 though. but you will have undeniable proof that it was transferred into her name.

I amo not sure of why you ask, but I will share this with you.

I intended to give my firearms to my children when I am no longer able to use them (death or age).  I have told them that they are theirs, but I will hold possesion of them until such time.

When I had a bankruptcy I told the judge that they belong to them, but I am holding them until they take possesion of them and he asked no further questions.

ohhhhhh that sounds like  are  going to a trial, and are covering your bases in case you get convicted and have to give up your firearms.....at least that's what it sounds to me.

easiest way is just do a bill of sale.........you might want to notorize it.

No, just want her to have her own AR before the Columbus AWB goes into effect, since I can't give it to her afterwards and she won't be able to travel with mine.

I think I'll go up to the Powder Room and look into a transfer.  As I recall, it's $20.  I'd like the piece of mind of having a government document.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I did this today.  I downloaded sample text from http://www.ilrg.com/forms/billofsale-asis/us/oh and had it notarized at Bank One.
