UDF Customer Relations,

It is with regret that I must inform you that I will no longer patronize your local Cincinnati UDF convenience stores that display the “No Concealed Weapons” stickers.  I understand that this policy is intended to ease the fears of customers and to make folks feel safe in your stores, but it in fact does just the opposite.  The only people who will honor your prohibition against firearms are respectable citizens, and they are the kind of people that you have nothing to fear from.  This policy will not deter those who will enter your store to commit a crime with a firearm.  In fact, it will encourage them, for they can assume that an armed citizen will honor your posted sign and not carry their weapon inside, and thus not be able to offer armed resistance.  Your sign is equivalent to one that reads “No Armed Resistance Here- Come Rob Us”.  And it seems that several criminals agree, as I have noted an increase in the number of UDFs that have been robbed at gunpoint recently.  I am a married professional with three young children and I refuse to put my family at unnecessary risk by entering your store.

Since you prohibit responsible citizens from entering your store, and I have yet to see you hire armed guards, your stores are easy targets for those who would commit crime.  And since criminals choose the easiest targets and you will not allow me the right to protect my family and myself, I find that I am LESS SAFE at a UDF and will no longer do business with your company.  This is unfortunate, since my family and I enjoy your dairy products and ice cream.

Enclosed you will find copies of my purchase receipts for items I would usually have bought at UDF, but have purchased from other businesses.  The receipts cover approximately a two-week period and total $126.48.  This amounts to an average of $3,300 a year in lost revenue.

I strongly ask that you reconsider your policy prohibiting law-abiding and responsible citizens from carrying weapons in your store.  UDF offers the highest quality dairy products in the area and I would gladly resume business with you if this policy were revoked.

Sincerely,

MRW (no, I didn't use my arfcom nick! )

well, I got a bland blah, blah, blah form letter reply.  Probably the same one everyone gets, regardless of the position they take.

But if they get enough negative letters, it will cause them to reconsider.

don't give up!
