I moved to CA in 09 for a job to support the wife and I.
First week of January this year I was laid off from a job in the high tech industry.

I'll be turning 60 this year and knew I would not find a job paying the same.
Sold the house and was able purchase a house in Payson for cash.

Love this town of 15,000 people, can get everywhere in 5 to 10 minutes.
Plan is to go to work at Home Depot in a few months.

Private range 10 Min from home only $50 a year, yea.
In the middle of some of the best hunting in the state.

Will miss my friends but not the anti gun BS.
Wish you all the best of luck to keep your gun rights.

bobcat50,

Any lessons learned during the sale/purchase and relocation that you can share, perhaps tax issues, insurance or others?

Are you on a well or city piped water?  Sewer or septic?

Where in AZ will you be moving to and when? Would love to welcome a CA transplant (being one myself). You are going to LOVE AZ. The summers as you know are brutal, but who the hell plans on spending the day outside when it's 112+?

ETA: Just reread your post.... Payson. GREAT choice. The hunting and fishing in that area is off the charts. Welcome!!!

Yes.
If the buyer is financing through Navy Fed CU run away.
Buyer was pre-approved for a VA loan, a closing date was set and 1 week before closing NFCU turned down the loan.
Buyer was able to get a conventional loan but it delayed the closing by 2 weeks.
Almost lost the house in Payson.

Water, septic and gas is city, trash is private.
Electric is APS, 2/3 the cost.
Insurance decreased by 2/3.

I payed cash and my closing went very smooth.
In dealing with the different city departments it's been great.
You can talk with a real person on the phone or in 5 minutes go to their office.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Went fishing on the East Verde River yesterday, caught 1 trout, my buddy got his limit.
They were very yummy for dinner.

In 6 months I can purchase a resident hunting and fishing license.
My current out of state is valid for the next 5 months.

Living the dream!

Make your money and retire out of a high income state like CA and retire in a cheaper state.
