"Assembly Bill (AB) 60 (Chapter 524: Statutes of 2013) requires the department to issue an original driver license to an applicant who is unable to submit satisfactory proof of legal presence in the United States. Driver license applicants under AB 60 must meet all other qualifications for licensure and must provide satisfactory proof of identity and California residency."

I want to get out of this state.  This place is totally nuts.  Was there ever any justification offered for passing this?

The first person to have their family hit and killed by an illegal alien with a legal, sanctioned CA drivers license (where the illegal alien can just hop border back to Mexico and face no penalties) should SUE THE SHIT out of CA.

I've been hit twice by illegals , first one damn near cost me everything I own.

The second one was a delivery driver for a small  oil company.  This terd crushed me into a car in front of me.
Fire department had to cut me out of the car.

The company filed for bankruptcy protection the very next day . Took almost 5 years to settle right up to the day before court.

I got a huge settlement but the damage done to my body has taken years off my career.

They are already driving - by the hundreds of thousands.

Six years ago I worked in an eight man workcenter - all but me had been hit by an illegal or had their family hit by an illegal within 12 months. It was crazy. The worst was a guy's wife who got plowed into at 45 miles an hour for doing something as stupid as stopping at a traffic light. The drunken illegal had been up all night drinking and didn't even slow down. The car the wife was driving in got sent sailing into the yard of a house and the illegal alien fled the scene. Riverside sheriffs shut the neighborhood down and with lots of officers and the K9 unit they found the guy sleeping in someone's backyard hours afterwards. The guy's wife was knocked out by the force of the impact and that was six years ago ... she's still in pain.

My wife is a legal immigrant and we spent several thousand dollars and waited months and months (military spouses get head-of-the-processing line) and went through very strict criminal and health screening. I am VERY pro-immigration - LEGAL immigration is great for our country. The illegals coming here get no screening so we get the murderers fleeing Mexican and Central American justice and those that are very sick along with those wanting to work. The reason why we have immigration screening is to keep out the MS13 killers, child rapist, and TB/polio/leprosy carriers.

I was arrested and later exonerated of "false imprisonment" for chasing down and detaining an illegal who hit a woman in a cross-walk; but the legal
process and out of pocket expense for legal defense on my part plus the loss of work hours for court and was a real eye opener , to me at least, just how ludicrous
the situation has become. The final solution was that said illegal was jailed , ON OUR DIME, and deported ON OUR DIME probably to be back in this country
almost immediately under a different name, something is wrong and something HAS to change. And no, as much as I wanted to I didn't beat his ass to a pulp.

Once licensed they might get insurance which would be good.  The lack of a driver's license is obviously not stopping them from driving so allowing them to get licensed probably won't make things any worse.

I don't think the constitution defines 'legal' immigration and we have a big welcome mat in New York saying give us your people.  I don't believe that fighting for our 2nd amendment rights while ignoring others' rights is American.  Lets not forget that we have the right to travel unmolested and that a license is an option unless using the road for commerce.  Anyone wanting to support a law that doesn't allow an immigrant to get a license or to do anything else here that we get to do is just as bad as those who want to impose strict gun laws upon us.  If you remove emotion and personal wants you'll see that it's either freedom or not.

Immigrants are allowed to get driver's licenses and insurance and have been able to do that for decades that I know of personally. My wife is an immigrant.

The point that you forgot is that we'e a sovereign nation governed by laws. The immigrants we're talking about didn't go through the thoughtful and legal process to enter the United States of America like my wife did. There wasn't a criminal background check, a complete medial exam, nor a financial review conducted. They don't come here and sign a declaration that they are ineligible for government assistance for 10 years of their residence. They didn't face a review by the government with interviews at the one year and three year points. They didn't wait in line for the government's process. They broke the law and cheated the system and now demand all the benefits of those who followed the rules, complied with difficult and complex review process.

I say fuck that.

When you reward bad behavior you get more of it. When I catch a student cheating in my class they don't get the grade they cheated to get - they get expelled. I support legal immigration. I encourage legal immigration. I welcome with open arms legal immigrants. I love and married an immigrant. I live in a community that is full of immigrants. I spend my free time with immigrants. Nobody will argue rationally, that this nation isn't made better because of its immigration policy.

I think we have enough rapists, murders, pedophiles, drug dealers, gang members, and scumbags without allowing more of them to come here and raping and murdering our families. How do we limit that - why we have their home countries criminal records screened by a US approved procedure which is already in place and function. I think we have enough Polio, TB, and leprosy cases in the Untied States without bringing more here to remain untreated spreading their diseases. How do we limit that - why we have a complete medical exam performed at designated hospitals screened by a US approved procedure which is already in place and fully functional. Finally I think we have enough low skilled poor people on the public dole already without bringing in more straining our support system to and beyond the breaking point. How to we limit that - why we screen their education in their home country, we look at what their job/support prospects here and we mandate that they cannot apply for any government support for the reasonable length of time of 10 years.

Can you give us more info on this?

By any chance did you place said alien under a citizen's arrest?
Any witnesses that testified on your behalf?
How much did it cost you?
Why didn't the DA refuse to prosecute you?

My issue is with "legal" immigrant.  What defines a legal immigrant is our laws and not the person.  If a person jumps the ocean from Cuba and lands on soil he is granted legal status, if he jumps the Mexican border he isn't, regardless the person's intent or contribution here.  I deal with a lot of Mexicans, good and bad, as well as other foreigners.  I have found that the Mexicans more often than others will run back 'home' to escape a problem because it's generally easy for them where others are somewhat locked in here which may be what makes some of them act more responsibly.  Maybe Mexicans should all be regarded as flight risks and remanded when they're suspected of a crime and jailed instead of sending/allowing them back to Mexico.

I had a somewhat related incident involving a kidnapping.  I did beat him (he really asked for it and I couldn't control myself after the many hours of trauma) and he was arrested and given 3 life sentences with no parol.  The cops were very cool about my 'spanking' and called it injuries sustained as a result of resisting arrest, or something like that.  Had he been illegal he would have been deported and possibly back to do it again, he was naturalized so he was jailed.  Those against allowing immigrants to become citizens should consider things like this.  Yes we all have to bear the cost of housing his ass for life, but at least he can't come back to harm another innocent person and it sends a message to his peers to not so this kinda shit here.

Well said. I have no problems with people coming here but they have to follow our laws, not be rewarded for breaking them. My wife came here from Colombia when she was 13. She did it legally, learned English and became a productive citizen. Plus she hates Obama & loves her guns.

In this discussion, you have to consider the large numbers of felons who have recently been released back into the populace with an associated rise in crime and increase in violent crimes.

Remember also, the police have adopted a "book and release" policy, with no incarceration involved for many/most arrested.
