I need some help or maybe just point me in a direction to find some info on getting a CA CCW.  I'm sort of in a unique situation I guess.  I'm active duty and stationed in NV but am a CA resident.  However I don't have a CA address.  It is my understanding that CCW's are really dependent upon which county you live in but I don't really know how that would work for me?  My parents live in L.A. county and I have a sister who lives in Orange county.  Any ideas on how I could obtain one.  I have a NV CCW and would really like to carry on the drive in and while visiting family in CA.  Thanks.

I had to provide to my local sherif a valid DL and utility bill that proved my residence in that county.

You're going to have to be more clear for me to answer.

How are you a CA resident if you don't have a CA driver's license, or a CA residence?

If you're young enough and still have parents that live here, then get a new driver's license using their address.  While you're AD, most States allow you to retain your home State's DL.  I kept mine through my entire .mil career, for instance.

...but you have to have that address--some sort of residence--in order to claim to be a resident of that state.

If your NV DL lists a residence on it...You're a NV resident, now.  Home of record/Home State/Resident status is entirely dependent upon that address.

As it sits...I don't think you can get a CA CCW.  There are much better informed members on here, however,  so if I'm wrong I hope they'll chime in.

If you don't live in CA, you pretty much aren't going to get a CA CCW. My county is one of the easiest to get a CCW in, and as of my last renewal it was very clear that if you don't live here, you aren't getting one.

I'm a Utah resident, AD .mil stationed in CA, and I've been told that in order for me to get a CCW through Sac County I need to change my DL to CA and switch my legal residence. Ain't gonna happen.
