I welcome yet another gun owner to California.

Have you thought about storing your rifles in a storage facility where you live now.

CA DOJ Firearm Division

There's a link on that page 'firearms information for new California residents'.

Your probably going to have to sell banned items or give them to family.

Many storage facilities do not allow firearms.

Many firearms may be made CA legal with minor, reversible mods.

Others can be disassembled, and the receivers can be stored in a safe deposit box in Memphis.

Some FFLs offer storage, but I cannot imagine that it will be cheap.

What do you have?

When you buy a handgun or rifle from an FFL the sale is recorded.

There's nothing to worry about (r) registering your weapons with the state as there are no requirements to keep those records current nor does California have authority over you/them once you leave the state - or even lose them in a tragic boating accident. It's a worthless requirement that politically makes the liberal look very good. Where the state is making - only beginning - use of the data is when you're convicted as a felon they'll have a list of firearms that they'll want accounted for. Currently as a non-felon I retain my rights and my answer is that I gave them to my Aunt Nunya in North Carolina.

For the ARs put a Raddlock or Bullet Button the lower and only bring/use 10-round-or-less magazines.

The SKS is also legal I'm pretty confident.

Bolt-action rifles (no .50cal though, we do have a .50 cal ban) and pump shotguns (of legal barrel length) are generally good to go.

While I believe I know the laws with regards to the others, I'm not confident enough to make a recommendation.

Stag is not named on the ban list, so you could throw a bullet button on them and be GTG.

Further clarification - it's specifically the 50BMG and not just generic 50 caliber or any other cartridge that's banned.

Bring your rifles over after making them CA legal.
Add a bullet button/Radlock.  They install in seconds.  Very easy.

I may have the same dilemma soon. After 15 yrs in texas I may be moving to cal soon.
Never have given some of states laws much thought, until now. I have a Galil/Golani that I had stripped, rebarralled with new IMI barrel, refinished and rebuilt by a Galil master...love that rifle...I just don't want to let it go. Same with some AK's. My 1911's are good to go, but I'm having great difficulty letting go of some of these things.
I have a bunch of family there that want me to come. Nobody here will miss me, and I just sold my business. Who are these crazy people that make laws based in ignorance and superstition? I like California a lot and have visited many times...seriously stressed over this.

I welcome yet another gun owner to California. You'll find the place crawling with Texans!

My incite into the insanity is that unlike Texas California's legislature meets year-round. They need something to put their name on to appeal to their liberal base and gun control is a prime target.

trade the MAK-90 for an AK-type not banned by name.

I left the banned by name AR's with family.  I didn't bring the off list AK's - yet. I had an OLL and did  a bullet button.

I just brought all my pistols recently and am in the process of filling out the new resident reporting form.  I hate it, but I want my guns and if they do a ban later I'll take them back to family.

My only concern is I have no idea what the exact date is when I acquired them.  Hopefully that doesn't cause problems.

Welcome to CA.  There is a lot of shooting here and a lot of other stuff to do.  Just don't let the crazy get to you.

I may move to CA in January and live there for 2-3 years.  I have some things that are explicitly banned in CA that I'd rather not sell, and I don't know anyone that I can trust with these things.  Any ideas?

I've heard that there may be some gun stores in Nevada that are willing to store your firearms for a monthly fee.  Has anyone gone through this route?

Also, if I currently understand it, it seems that anyone moving to CA as of January 1st must register all long arms with the state.  Is that correct?

Thanks,
Alan

Break down rifles. Remove Magazine button. Break down magazines larger then 10 rounds. You will be fine.

If they are banned by name then that is bad advice. Even if disassembled it is still against the law to bring them into the state. If they are banned by features then either a bullet button or remove the features.
