Hello fellow members. I am interested in finding out how to legally make and own a short barreled shotgun. I live in the Southbay of Northern Cal, can anyone tell me how to go about getting the right paper work to do this?

Short answer for CA is you can't - unless you're in the military and it is issued to you or law enforcement and your agency purchases it for you or you have a class 3 FFL and a "Dangerous Weapons Permit". The CA DOJ won't issue a permit to do it for any non-Hollywood prop houses or LE agencies, and without this permit, the BATF won't approve it anyway.
You can get an AOW or C&R SBS, but the C&R SBS route is such a rare thing that it is nearly impossible. The AOW route is possible for a short shotgun with a pistol grip and forward grip. There is a thread somewhere on Calguns about that. Until CA gets spanked by the SCOTUS and is forced to rejoin the United States and is forced to start to respect federal laws and the US Constitution, you're not going to get the same freedoms afforded to the rest of the US. In CA's political climate, coercion is necessary because CA voters won't (or can't due to the system) vote for non-marxist politicians. Hell, you're in commie central. By even posting the question on a public forum, don't be surprised if Leland Yee himself knocks on your door to arrest you and take you off somewhere for "re-education" as part of some new post-Aurora "cultural revolution". |
