Please check with your local county sheriff's web site on fireworks restrictions. I know we've got lots and lots of people coming here for the first time

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, Riverside County Code Enforcement and the Riverside County Board of Supervisors would like to remind the members of the public of the dangers of fireworks.

Avoid the Worst - Obey the Law and Put SAFETY First!

Public safety officials from the County of Riverside would like to ensure that all residents and visitors understand that fireworks are illegal in Riverside County; meaning that you may not sell, purchase, transport, store or use fireworks in the County of Riverside.

The cities of Blythe, Coachella, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs and Indio are the only cities which allow the sale and use of State Fire Marshal-approved "Safe and Sane" fireworks. Fireworks purchased in these cities shall not be transported, used or possessed outside of the cities in which they were purchased.

ALL fireworks, including sparklers are illegal in Riverside County. All fireworks are illegal because they cause serious injuries and very often, cause fires most people are idiots and need the government to keep them from blowing their hands off. Riverside County has very diverse terrain. The vegetation is very dry, and fireworks can easily start a brush fire.

Individuals who cause a wildfire by using illegal fireworks will be held responsible for all suppression costs and could be criminally prosecuted. These costs can run into the millions of dollars.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department law enforcement officers and Riverside County Code Enforcement aggressively enforce Riverside County Ordinance 858, as well as other laws pertaining to the sale, transport, manufacturing, storage and use of illegal fireworks.

In Riverside County protecting the safety of the public is a top priority and we enforce a "zero tolerance" policy with regard to citizens in possession of illegal fireworks. Those caught with illegal fireworks will be subject to fines, citations, arrest and confiscation of all illegal fireworks. We urge you to leave the fireworks to the professionals. You can find safe, legal firework displays in your local community by visiting http://www.riversidesheriff.org/fireworks

If you would like to report the use or sales of illegal fireworks within the County of Riverside please call 1-800-950-2444, or you can report the incident at our web site located at http://www.riversidesheriff.org/fireworks Thank you and have a safe summer.

Good post. Most important though, you don't want to blow your trigger finger off.

It might be illegal here, but my neighbors do it every year anyway.

The cops park at the end of the block and watch

Just like drinking responsibly, use fireworks on the 4th responsibly regardless of what your ordinances allow.

Don't get caught and if the cops stop to ask you the direction of the fireworks.... "I did not notice" is the proper response unless you know there is a dangerous situation.

Cops have better things to do such as catching criminals, drug traffickers, gang-bangers, preventing drive-bys and car-jackings, plus solving violent crimes and putting rapists and pedos behind bars.

Cops $hould earn their pay and pension not through hassling and prosecuting law-abiding gun owners, and those that do not partake in the above mentioned crime activities but love this great nation and want to celebrate a little.

Eventually, our liberal politicians will realize the only way to fully protect citizens from risk, injury and death is to not to be born to begin with. Oh wait, they know that already and is why they steadfastly support abortion.

The above statement is what we are to believe.

I am not a criminal or public nuisance, so I have very little interaction with law enforcement. My upbringing in a military family raised me to respect authority as well as people in general.

My very limited personal experience with the law, CHP specifically, has taught me that LEOs are in fact here to "Serve and Protect" the interests of those who employ them. Specifically, local municipalities, state and federal government.

The role of LEO's, in my acquired experience, is to regulate all citizens and insure that we are obeying all laws. When we break laws and are caught, it is their duty to cite us and generate revenue for their respective employer.

LEO = Regulator.

This isn't intended to be a LEO bashing post. Just sharing my opinion that cops are way more efficient at generating revenue through enforcing laws than they are at catching murderers and rapists.

My fondest memories of my early upbringing in California were each Independence Day when the neighborhood families gathered to share burgers and firecrackers. Each end of the block would have little mini-shows where the parents from one end would light up and the kids would all run to that end of the block. Moments later the other end would counter and the kids would run that way. Great fun.

Our government no longer allows us to do such stupid things. They've taken that joy from us because as a whole we are not to be trusted with our safety. That 0.001% of people have ruined it for everyone.
