Greetings from the other side of the wire.

My job has me driving back and forth along I80 between Sparks and Roseville every day and I see all kinds of really sweet places to go hiking along that corridor. Today, I saw some really neat terrain at the Flouriston exit (the second to last exit before you cross the border, eastbound on I80) I'd like to check out on foot.

Now, I know there was a freakout about the Tea Party protesters last year open carrying and I was wondering what the letter of the law is regarding OC when out humping miles through the bush?

I don't really like the idea of going into the wild unarmed and none of us in our group doesn't have a CA OK handgun (everyone in my circle has a revolver).

So, is it legal to OC with a charged firearm while hiking in CA?

After skimming through some material in that link:

If youre in an unincorporated area, 1500 feet away from a school (k-12), you are gtg.

I've never had a problem with it in remote areas. And in these remote areas while hiking I've sometimes come across LE. They've never had a problem with it. In fact I've had some tell me, "I wouldn't come out here without a gun."
