I need to block some CMMG mags to 10rds. Could I just put a piece of wood or something inside the mag, or would it be better to hot glue a piece of plastic inside?

All pistols and centerfire rifles with fixed magazines are subject to the 10rnd capacity limit, so if your .22lr magazine is for a rifle without any "evil features", then it can hold as many as possible, without going into "assault weapon" status.

If the magazine is for a rifle with a fixed magazine & "evil features", I am under the impression that the magazine would need to be permanently altered to 10rnd capacity, which would mean riveting or welding something inside as a stop. Not 100% sure that it has to be permanent though.
