Hello,
I'm new to the site and I'm thinking of buying an AR after shooting a course this weekend for rifles. However I may move to California and I know they are a pain in the a$$. Does anyone know the difficulty in transferring a gun to Ca for registration. Thanks, Rich

Become very familiar with this. Basically, so long as the receiver isn't explicitly listed in the tables on the second page, add a bullet button and you're good to go.
ETA: 10 rd magazines, and there is no rifle registration in CA. |

There is no long arm registration in California. Buying an AR rifle here is no different than any other state, except the 10 day wait period. Just abide by California laws and you'll be fine. Google "California Penal Code 12276.1" and learn that section. Become familiar with Senate Bill 23, Roberti Roos and the Kasler List.
Now run from away from this thread because the people on here think better of Osama Bin Laden than a 2A supporting, law abiding Californian. Go to the CA hometown page or to Calguns.net and don't listen to what anyone posts here about California who isn't in California, they usually end up with a terrible abortion "interpretation" of our laws. I expect Paul to transfer this thread soon anyhow. |
| Just abide by California laws (Do not buy Rifle with listed lower like Colt or Bushmaster ...) and order a BB online or disasembel lower from upper while moving in and reassemble rifle with BB & 10 ROUND MAGS (10/20 or 10/30) in Ca. (Visit calguns.net for skinny on everything you need to know ... |

If you're wondering whether or not you can buy something before you move and then bring it to California and then try to register it as an assault weapon, the answer is no. Everything you import must comply. (There are exceptions for current military, but it is a process. You most likely do not qualify). There is an allowance for out of staters bringing in a non compliant weapon for sanctioned competitions, but not training.
I only know this from living in California (now part time). You'd be amazed at how fast you can work a Bullet Button. I have a California compliant weapon for here and at this point in time, don't even "fix it" for Arizona. It's not that big of a deal. Honest. Don't try anything cute; make your weapon compliant before you bring it in. It's a lot cheaper than a lawyer and you won't "forget". |

Can I purchase my gun from PA w/o the bullet button and get it waived when I move to Ca? I like to run coursesso a bullet button would make it pointless. NO - As noted, it can't be on the banned by name list (hence the term OLL Off List Lowers) and can't have the requisite bad features, so you need the bullet button or Monster Man Grips to avoid disqualifying features. |
