Hello All, the Wife and I will be visiting San Diego in a couple of weeks and I thought I'd ask the CAHTF for some tourist advice.  What places should we make sure to see while there? Any suggestions for museums, restaurants, and other places of interest are greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Visit the USS Midway Naval Air Museum located right on the waterfront near Broadway Pier. It's a full day of walking around and picture taking. Walk over to the pier to the south and see the USO memorial.

Balboa Air and Space is another nice Museum.

San Diego has a world class zoo (east of down town) and an animal park (about an hour north).

Sea World is fun.

Balboa Park Museums.  There you can split up if necessary.  Guys to the Air & Space Museum, the Model RR Museum, and the Sports Museum, the ladies can go to any of the several Art and other museums.  If you can swing it go to a Shakespeare play at one of the theaters.

Cabrillo National Monument out on the end of Point Loma.

Old Town San Diego if you're into old cowboy stuff. There's a Wells Fargo museum there with a restored stage coach. There's also a tequila museum there.

I would highly recommend visiting Old Town.  While you are there make sure to visit the Whaley house.  They claim that it is haunted.  Then I would recommend visiting Balboa Park and visiting some of the museums.  The Science museum is the one I highly recommend because the exhibits are hands-on and they encourage you to play with them.  Finally I would recommend checking out the Hillcrest area and make sure to stop by The Brass Rail as well.  Also while you are down there check out The Loft as well.

To watch an excellent sunset - Glidders Port at Torrey Pines in La Jolla (free).  Just be careful of the cliff.  You can also watch hangliders there as long as the wind is favorable.

Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma (entrance fee and parking fee).  On the way there stop by Fort Rosecrans cementary to pay respect to our fallen military personnel.  At the national monument you can also see the Coronado island where one of our naval air station is located.  You can also see the submarine base.

For one of the great Mexican restaurants - Pico Gayo located in Grossmont shopping center La Mesa.

Well as funny as this is for locals...... be aware that hillcrest is the gay part of town.  Scripps aquarium is also a pleasant visit.  Its also in la jolla which is a nice family beach if you want to catch a little sun while you are out here.
