I tried to read the laws regarding assault weapons and it seems like I wouldn’t even be allowed to own a firearm in California. The laws seem really strict. I might have to move out to California in the next year so I would like to know what toys I can and can’t bring with me. What laws do I absolutely need to know pertaining to firearms possession, owning and bringing from my state to yours? What capacity mags can I legally use for both my assault rifles and handguns? If high cap mags are not permitted to be used in a firearm, would I still legally be able to keep them in my home? Are their any loop holes like: I can use an AK with high cap mags if it’s a preban, or high caps if it doesn’t have a pistol grip? Do my pistols have to imprint its serial number on spent casings, or am I okay from out of state? Does everything have to be registered? If I like AK’s and Glocks, what variants or types of these are easier and on the safer side to bring with me: like prebans, postbans, non pistol grip, no muzzle devices etc. Any restrictions on ammo? I really appreciate any help. Thanks |

Start out with reading the weapons primer that's tagged at the top of the page. That will help answer most of your questions and give you a headache. No mags over 10 rounds PERIOD for anything, no AW's that are listed... The best thing to do is to jump over to calguns.net and do some reading on OLL's (off list lowers) to see how you can have an AW in Cali. Any pistol that you want, buy it before you come here. If it's not on the approved list you won't be able to get it once you get here. Plus you have 60 days to register all of your handguns. It's not as bad as people will tell you and we Cali people have been giving the DOJ a run for it's money by getting around their stupid laws. Just get ready for a little culture shock if you've never been out here. |
The only shock I'm getting is from the laws out there. Are their any laws pertaining to owning "pitbulls" or "pitbull type dogs" out there? Would It be within the laws to have a Saiga with a "filled in" skeleton stock and detachable 10 rd mags? I was reading about something like this that someone did and posted about it on Calguns.net. |
