If I check the pistol part of my form when I buy my next lower, can I then pin a ten rounder in and build a pistol? thought I saw a threadd about it a while ago, but cant find it now. as lond as I didnt put any handguards on it it wouldnt meet the generic requirements right???

(4) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:

(A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
(B) A second handgrip.
(C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
(D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.

(5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

i think theres a there is a technicality of the mag well has to be in the pistol grip (otherwise its an assault pistol) plus it isnt listed as a safe pistol, so im not sure if that has any impact on whether or not you could.  anyone??

I believe if it is semi auto it must pass the CA drop test. The DOJ won't approve your homemade handgun even if it isn't an assault pistol.

The way around all this legal crap is to make it bolt action. Period.

AR15barrel AR15 Pistol KIT = $700 (less pistol AR15 receiver)

CMTS California legal AR pistol = $999

Seems from the threads above, the best way to get an AR15 pistol in CA is to:
• AR15 receiver has to be manufactured & register in their manufacturer's book as a PISTOL receiver.
• AR15 PISTOL needs to be completely assembled as a single shot pistol before being shipped to California. PC § 12133 (b)
• Have the single shot AR15 pistol sent to a CA EBR friendly FFL to do the DROS
• When you hav finished with the DROS, you can then make it a semi auto pistol with a fixed magazine (with a capacity of 10 round or less).

Even when and where these things are legal I always wondered why?

A .223 out of a short barrel like that isn't going fast enough to tumble. The round loses too many hundreds of feet per second to be effective even at the barrel. You end up with a huge handgun that's the balistic equal of a .22 magnum. The fireball and blast from a rifle round fired from a pistol is stupid big. Heaven save you if you ever have to shoot it indoors or without hearing protection.

Sort of like taking a nice Jeep with 37" tires and dropping the frame to the ground like a low rider ... I just don't get it.

Well, if I were to do one. I'd do one in a pistol caliber. Fixed mag 10 round Colt/UZI mag (cut down or perm 10 rds mod).

The issue with this is that they're already blow back and thus no gas tube. The bolt would still cycle after being fired.

I'm not sure if they will meet the definition of a single shot with a single shot mag block installed in the magwell with a BB or Prince50, when you DROS it.

You would be able to fire it at an indoor ranges, steel pistol matches, etc...

Bulllet performance would be greater than what you would get from a normal pistol. Longer barrel = more velocity.
