My nephew, who is just back from Iraq and now at Camp Pendleton has shown interest in my HK Expert. I would either like to purchase one for him, or give him mine as a gift, however, I am concerned about the gun laws in California. I know that to ship it, it has to go through a FFL dealer, but my question is can the 15 round magazines be shipped with the gun, or do I need to find lower capacity magazines? What are the restrictions, if any on him personally carrying it into the state? I know this might sound naive, but CA laws are unique and not at all similar to the ones in Texas and I don't want to run afoul of the laws in the state. |

Sell him the gun in TX, through a FFL. Now since he's active duty military, he can bring it to CA even if it isn't on the approved list, with the High Capacity Mags. You're supposed to register any weapon brought into CA, self mail in type of thing, cost is minimal... there are alot of 'us military' people that don't know about the registration and pleed the fith on registering handguns. If he has an AR, AK or other type of "black evil sport utility rifle" ... send me a message, I'll send you the number for the CA DOJ, the military assult weapons permit isn't much hassle. |
There is no exemption for military personnel to import "high capacity" magazines into California. |
