Okay folks, my two children are finally getting to the age where I want to introduce them to the love of sport shooting, and teach them the love and respect that comes with knowing how to properly handle a firearm.

Are there any good places to get them started here in tha SF Bay Area?   I'd like to have something fairly close to home that will enable us as a family to go shooting.

Any input would be most welcome.

The bay area is a big place. Can you be more specific?

SJ, SF, East Bay, North Bay.....

What city are you in?

Also, go over and ask at Calguns.net in the general firearms discussion section. Tons of good guys from the SF bay area over there.

Chabot in Castro Valley has a good program for kids, very inexpensive.  They also have several good classes for adults.  Check out their web site for more info.

East bay, specifically the 680 corridor is our local.   I was looking at either Chabot or the Livermore/Pleasanton gun club.  but looking for other options if they are available

I've had good luck at Chabot with the kids.  They provide the rifle, ammo, ear & eye protection, targets, and instruction at a very low price.  Very friendly instructor and the kids can shoot untill they get sick of shooting.  I took the defensive handgun and shotgun classes there.  Very reasonably priced for beginner level training.
Livermore has a few classes but although I shoot there occasionaly, I've never taken their classes.

680 corridor covers a lot of ground  :)

If you are nearer Concord there is a youth .22 program at USI as well, "the musketeers".

Okay, specifically: nestled at the foot of Mt. Diablo, and I'm willing to drive 20 miles in any direction to get to a decent place.   30 if it's awsome.

The main idea is to get my son and daughter into the mindset that 'guns are good, its people that can be bad' instead of the liberal mindwash that most schools are ramming down people's throats.
