Anyone here own or shot a Kel-Tec SU16B. I'm thinking of getting one but I'd like a little input first.

  Thanks

Generally speaking The SU-16CA is a much better weapon than the SU-16A/B. The SU-16A/B both have plastic sights and have thin barrels that are not threaded. The SU-16CA (I believe) also has an ejection port cover that partially covers the bolt and prevents foreign objects from entering on a closed bolt.

If you really want a SU-16, then I would suggest going with the CA model.

I have a Kel-tec that I don't like much, mostly because I don't like plastic guns.

But one of our California dealers told me he is selling lots of Kel-tecs to (I think) DEA agents who prefer the handiness and light weight to the AR-15.  Would sure surprise a lot of folks on this BBS to hear that.

Also in the Kel-tec's favor, it features a simple and reliable gas piston action.  I suspect they developed it to be inexpensive to make, but I bet it would be a hella reliable combat rifle.

B's have metal sights. A's can be retrofitted with B's sights. CA is probably the best evolution.

Fun, light and farily cheap if you look around. An AR it is not though.

Yeah, I bet the DEA is picking up Kel-tecs left and right.  I can imagine the conversation now...

"You like that Kel-Tec SU-16? Yeah, I'm getting a lot of DEA agents buying those because of their lower weight over an AR. Oh, you also like the Ruger 10/22 huh? The FBI uses that because of it's ability to be suppressed and it's supperior sub sonic accuracy. Glocks? Yeah, the CIA likes the Glock, I personally prefer the XD because the SEALs use it, but whatever you like. Now that's the Desert Eagle, the SAS prefer that, but you'll need to also buy the .50AE barrel and bolt from us to get it to the configuration they use. Of, that's the Remington 700, best sniper rifle in the world. You have to get it in .300 WinMag to get the best round available...."

I hate counter jockies like that who will tell you anything to try and make a sale. Sad thing is it works on half the people they do it to...

I've always liked the Kel-tec since the day it came out. Even now with OLL I still want to get one. I just can't bring myself to buy one knowing I have 6 other rifles in the same caliber.

I have a Kel-Tec SU16CA. It's not a bad rifle and comes in handy as a camp rifle. California restricts where I can take my AR's so the Kel-Tec as well as my Mini14 serves their purposes. Mine has been 100% reliable but is much more difficult to disassemble for cleaning purposes. I have posted this photo before, this is my Kel-Tec. Completely stock with the addition of the compact forend from Kel-Tec and Aimpoint ML2. It also uses standard AR mags so if you have any acquired before the ban, they work great.

This isn't a counter joke.  This was during a conversation with a Mesa Tactical dealer.  He buys a lot of our Remington 870 hook loops because they happen also to fit onto Kel-tecs.  I sell him stuff, he doesn't sell me anything.

I see no reason not to believe it.  They are lighter than AR-15s, have a more reliable action and you can buy more Kel-tecs than AR-15s for the same budget.

I like both the rifle and it's folding feature, making it a good trunk gun. Hands down, I would consider this rifle over a Mini since it uses standard AR mags.  Now with the OLL option I can pop the upper off and have a similar small profile trunk gun, given there's not much trunk space in my car.

My 2 best friends have the su-16CA's and they are cool guns no doubt but they are plastic which kind of turned me off so I decided to build an AR instead
