It will not affect M1As, unless, for some reaosn, you have yours built with a fixed magazine and pistol gripped stock and/or flash hider or other evil features.

If you have a plane-jane M1A, or one with a muzzle brake, it will not affect you in any way whatsoever.

Wether the DOJ is thinking of adding M1As to the AW list through the proper process, who knows.

Let's hope not.  Cause the M1A is my only viable option of a semiauto with detachable mag in .308 caliber.  It's bad enough that I was in the Navy and spent 4 years out of the country 6 years out of state total and California took away all my guns cause I was not there physically to register by the dead line.  It's gonna be really bad when I just got out of the Navy haven't got my check for selling 60 days of leave and California takes away my only chance of a semiauto with detachable mag before I buy it.

I tend to think the DOJ would stay away from the M1A.  If they were to suddenly add it to the list as a named AW then it would call into question their entire lack of logic with regards to classifying weapons.

Sort of the same as how they appear to have decided to not list the off list lowers.  To do so would again bring public attention to their lack of knowledge on the subject and to the almost arbitrary and meaningless way that they decide which weapons are somehow more dangerous than others.

Tearing into mine I was amazed at how few parts there were ... and how many times more expensive they were than one with an equal number of parts like a Mini-14.
