well guys i hope u guys can assist me i'm in the L.A. area and i just had my car stolen sometime aroun Friday night and Saturday morning, Point is we filed a stolen vehicle report on Saturday morning and called the department on Monday morning to see if they had found anything. We spoke to one officer who said thet the car was involved in a hit and run and would not release the vehicle till someone came forward and state they where the ones driving the vehicle, Becouse if it wasn't the wife or myself driving it was someone we knew. Now i do agree it was someone we know becouse it was the only way you would know how to take the vehicle without a key but weather we know him or not he still took the car without our consent which makes that theft. Now i want them to complete there investigation and find the fuckers who took my car but i also don't have enough money for the tow yard to release my car when everything is said and done.

Now my question is can i do anything about it

I had nearly the same thing happen to me. Someone stole my motorcycle. I reportedt it stolen. Cops found it about 4 blocks away, had it towed, where the impound yard stripped it.  I had to pay to get it out of impound, and they lied to my face about stealing parts off of it (police report stated was intact at time of towing).

There is nothing you can do. Do not bother trying to fight the cops' procedures, you will lose unless you are an attorney with not much else to do. Just pay to get it released and go on with your day.

If you reported it stolen, your liability ended.  A FREIND would not take your car, crash it and then run away. So continue to mainting that the car was stolen, press charges against who ever took the car. Be thankfull you got it back so at least you can either fix it or sell it for salvage.

Total bummer, but one we all face at some time.

If it really was stolen, always bring that up. Let it be known that the car was stolen. Keep any reports or documents you have on the subject and just set it aside. The police are just doing their job, even if they do a crappy job of it, there isn't much you can do to them.

I would, however, assume that any and all fees to return your car to you in the original condition you had it prior to being stolen could be held against the person responsible for stealing the car. Even if it was $300 to get it out of impound and fix any damage it had, you could take the person charged to small claims and get them to be responsible for the monetary damages. Also, an actual conviction of "guilty' plea will go a LONG way proving that it was in fact stolen, so you may want to wait until that time to file any small claims charges against the person.

Good luck, and I hope for the best for you.

Where does your insurance compnay fit into all this?  Shouldn't they be paying for the recovery of the vehicle.  What do you pay them for, anyway?

The car was taken without my permission or me being aware, I that is considered theft in my book

I didn't mean that in disrespect GNMN. I have no doubts that the car was stolen. I just don't want to persuade someone to do something ill in judgment. I did not mean to question the legitimacy of it being stolen, I just wanted to point out that if a car is stolen, you should let it be known whenever dealing with the subject.

Hey bro don't worry about it Shit it's just that i've been dealing with getting treaded like that all week by the P.D. and shit it get to the point where i guess i just felt i was being atacked. I do apologise if i over reacted. Just that having no car and being treated as a suspect instead of the victim feels like shit .

I know EXACTLY how you feel.

We were robbed not too long ago, and the cops basically told us if the people didn't use any force to enter the property then there was nothing they could do. The only problem was we had our door kicked in the day before and the cops basically told us without any leads there was nothing they could do, and the people just returned and pushed on the door they had kicked in the night before, so the cops said they couldn't do anything since it wasn't forced entry. Some times cops are awesome and rock, other times you wonder why you even both calling them in the first place.

Well our government dose not have time to chase down property crime so if you have $5k stolen it’s  “sorry we don’t have any leads you should report it to your insurance”  but get a red light cam ticket for $200 and let it go long enough and I guarantee you will be in jail.

Ok back on you re original question, I had the same thing happen to me and the tow company is entitled to they’re fees.  I would suggest handling it A.S.A.P. as they are charging storage and when it gets to high they can slap a mechanics lean on the vehicle and sell it to recupe they’re losses.  That is just the way it is

Where was the car stolen from?  I would assume your residence, so the question is did you have any form of property insurance (home owner's or renter's)?  If so, you may want to look into it, as they cover anything damaged/stolen from the property... including vehicles parked there.  Hope you get it worked out bro.

I had a motorcycle stolen and found 3 months later and the only way was to find a lien in my mailbox from the tow company.

I ended up paying $0.00

After I paid teh tow yard I made a claim to the city for not calling me and letting me know my bike was stolen, I just added that my answering machine would have picked up even if I wasnt home and had I received a call I would have come to the park where they found it and rode it home....no need to tow it.

Just get your property back then deal with the assclowns who are giving you shit about your car.

As a matter of fact maybe calling the LT this a.m. and not the P.M. shift one will get you your car back.
