I was wondering, what are the chances that someone would harrass you like a LEO if you went to the shooting range with a lower receiver and the magazine can be detachable but you only used a 10 round magazine?  Or more likely no one would care?

Low, but not recommended.

Well if your lower receiver had been registered as a AW then it's completely legal to use any size detachable mag you want.

That is a felony you could lose your gun rights for the rest of your life.

Not to mean or rude, but is it just me or do a LOT of first time posters here ask how likely/much trouble they will get into when they do something they know is illegal?

Don't get me wrong, I have asked my fair number of stupid questions in regards to the law, but I never asked KNOWING it was illegal just to find out if the consequences weren't as strict as I would think.

And in regards to the original post: My advice, don't do it.

first off we need to find out what he really means.  I think he really meant to ask if  an LEO "someone" ( more aptly stated by the proper phrasing "someone like an LEO harrass...") would execute the duties of the office he holds and is duly paid by the taxpayers, in other words, if a doofus commited a felony in front of him would he get arrested for being a dumbshit?  The answer is probably yes, you do something stupid and illegal in front of an LEO and it is a felony you will get arrested.  On the other hand as written, would someone harass him like an leo?  I dunno, do people harrass LEOS at ranges?  or was he trying to say would someone acting like an LEO harrass him at a range.  The answer is NO, because an LEO would arrest and not harrass, maybe an asshat would harrass you for being a dumbshit at a range.

Do you consider it harrassment if the range officials seeing you commit a felony toss yer stupid ass off the range?

Idea #1 if you have to ask a question starting with "Is it illegal to?????"  Tha answer is almost always YES, and you shouldn't need to ask.

#2 Familiarize yourself with the California Attorney General Firearms pages.  Google is your friend.  If perusing that doesn't answer your question , then asking is a good course of action.

Of course, let's also assume you meant to include an upper with the aforesaid lower and 10 round magazine.

In practical and likely terms, if you contact the range first and find out if shooting with legal assault weapons is ok, and it is common practice at the range, you may not get any attention at all. But you are taking a chance.  In the real world, if you look like you know what you are doing, most people assume you know what you are doing.  And most LEOs at a range are probably going to ignore you.  But if you show up at a range with an AR and everybody has bolt guns and are slow firing and you rip off a quick burst,  A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE will likely ask you WTF OVER?

Also in the aforementioned case, the size of the magazine doesn't matter, if it is an illegal lower , it's an illegal lower, that's the kicker.  A 30 round magazine isn't going to make any difference unless it is clearly manufactured after the no import date.

As with committing any felony in public, the more attention you call the higher the likelihood of somebody getting curious, the less attention the less likely any questions.

There is also the whole age issue. Are there legal Assault Weapons in California? Of course. Do people harass people who have them? Usually not, because they know there are legal ones out there. So just because someone who is 40 doesn't get a second look for having an AK-47 with a drum mag, doesn't mean some kid who is 18 and still going through puberty is not going to get harassed when he walks out with an AR-15 with a 10 round mag.

Lets just sum it up like this...

Don't do something illegal.

If you DO, DON'T post about it or ask about it on a public forum.

If you DO post it, then don't be surprised if you're given the boot for a CoC violation, and called out on it by other members.

This thread deserves a lock.

Simplest answer: What you are suggesting is illegal. Period. We don't want anything to do with it.
