Hi, I am going to order a rifle via mailorder for the first time. Is this how the process works?

1) I go to the gun shop, fill out an FFL and mail it to the company I'm ordering from.
2) Once the company gets the FFL, they ship my rifle to the store
3) I go to the store and go through the DROS process

My main question is about step 1. Do I have to go to the store in person or does the store mail the FFL themselves? Thanks for any help!

They ought to be able to mail it with just a phone call. Be in contact with the distributor, they may already have a local FFL on file. You don't have to fill it out or anything, just have them send it.

Just tell the FFL where to mail the licence to.  It's common for FFLs to mail copies to supply houses for potential orders.

I just did what you're doing.

I would call the shop first to make sure they are welling to order the firearm for you to save yourself a trip.

Every shop also charges differently for the service... (I heard anywhere from $15 to $75 per firearm or 10 to 20% of cost.  Depending if the shop can get dealer pricing and cost of the firearm)
Then plus sales tax and DROS fees...
