Hey gents.. I looked through the pinned "Ranges" topic but I am particularly interested in plinking ranges like the ones I used to shoot at in san diego county. Just big unsupervised areas you can shoot pieces of junk at. Got any leads? I know sometimes it's hard to give directions to these, so gps coordinates are welcome. Near or around the bay area.... Thanks in advance for any leads. |

CatMember, Chabot has a plinking range. It is only open 4th Saturday of Month, noon to 5 pm , range 5, after small bore practice. Loosely supervised for safety. No formal targets. No glass targets. Acceptable Targets: toasters, plastic water or soda bottles, cans, waffle iron, vacuum cleaners, computers, frying pans, metal swingers, car mufflers, fruit, veggies, etc... When in doubt ask Romny or Marciano. Just clean up after yourself. Fruit and veggies are cool, you don't have to clean all of it up. The local animals (deer) come down and eat it later. Rapid fire ok. Bump fire ok, just let Romny or Marciano know first. Cost is $5 on the honor system. Last month between 2 people shot 500rds 7.62x39, 1500 rds 22lr, 100 rds 44mag, 200 9mm, etc. All in about 3 hours. Was real tired after. Next best thing to being out in the forest or private property. Dan |

Hi Cat, I dont know of any open unsupervised areas around the bay area. Most have been closed down. I do belong to a private gun club about 20 minutes from San Jose. Its unsupervised. You let yourself in and lock the gate behind you. You can shoot how ever you want there as long as its safe and you clean up your own mess. It is a private gun club so you have to pay a very small yearly fee but its well worth it.If you are interested let me know and I can give you more details. |
