I've been splitting time between West Palm Beach & Miami-Dade for the past 4 years.  I'll be moving to Naples in July and I'm largely unfamiliar with the area so I have several questions about the area.

1.  Where is the best place(s) to shoot?  (Rifles & pistols)

2.  Who are the best FFL's that are priced fairly or do reasonably priced transfers (including NFA)?

3. Where are the best neighborhoods to live with homes under 500k?

4. Where are is the best beach?

5.  Where are the best places to eat?

6.  Where is the best place to train?  (Looking for a no BS serious gym)

1.  Where is the best place(s) to shoot?  (Rifles & pistols) Indoor - Lotus Gun Works known as the Alamo, (Pistols only, if you want rifles you have to pay a expensive yearly fee).  Shoot Straight in Fort Myers is good, the HTF goes t here every other month to shoot then go eat after.

2.  Who are the best FFL's that are priced fairly or do reasonably priced transfers (including NFA)? I use a FFL in Cape Coral, (EBS Arms).  There is another one in Naples, can't think of his name, but he seems high on prices including transfers.  You may want to check out Naples Gun Range & Emporium, they are not Class III.  Also Lotus Gun Works became a Class III dealer recently, check them out.

3. Where are the best neighborhoods to live with homes under 500k? That is a tough question.  What size home are you looking for, do you want to be close to everything or out in the boonies with more land?  Would need more details, have you considered Bonita Springs...the more north you go, the better bang for your buck.

4. Where are is the best beach?  Tons of them, not a beach goer myself.  Some are more remote than others.  There is also Bonita Beach, which is nice.

5.  Where are the best places to eat? There are TONS, depends on what you enjoy eating.  You have the typical chain joints to local places.  There is a burger joint on RT41 just before 5th Ave. S. that is great.  You have First Watch.  5th Ave. S. has alot of restaurants, more of  special occasion type places unless you have money to burn.

6.  Where is the best place to train?  (Looking for a no BS serious gym) Can't help you there, seems to be alot of the "Crossfit" places popping up though.

Are you looking for HOA, golf course community, trailer park or redneck living.

That would help us out.

1.  Where is the best place(s) to shoot?  (Rifles & pistols)
Alamo and Naples Gun Emporium are conveniently located but I'm not a fan of indoor ranges. Babcock-Webb shooting range in the go-to for Joe Blow public but it can get very crowded and some people there do pretty stupid things. Range officers are hit or miss. Altair has two locations and is more of a club-based range.

2.  Who are the best FFL's that are priced fairly or do reasonably priced transfers (including NFA)?
The gentleman who owns Checkmate guns did a transfer for me for $20. Not sure if he's class 3.

3. Where are the best neighborhoods to live with homes under 500k?
I haven't shopped homes but I can tell you that you that it won't be on the beach As others have said, what lifestyle are you looking for? Central to the shops and downtown? Want water access? Want a larger piece of land? Schools important?

4. Where are is the best beach?
All of them. The ones near condos are all tourists. The ones near beach accesses with good parking are more local kids. The pier is an obvious attraction. Clam Pass is my favorite spot (accessed via free condo tram).

5.  Where are the best places to eat?
Unfortunately, many of the special Naples eateries are richy-rich places. Preston's Steakhouse is second to none. Skyline Chili is the place that gets frequented most.

6.  Where is the best place to train?  (Looking for a no BS serious gym)
Can't really help you here. I used to be a NCH member but the median age there is 86 so I doubt that's what you're looking for. Probably skip Planet Fitness too

I'm sick of the HOA nonsense in south(east) Florida so I'm hoping to avoid that...  Truthfully somethings a little more "country" would be cool, especially if I wasn't restricted from building a seperate structure on my property where I can have a home gym.

Golden Gate Estates may be what you seek. That's a huge area that varies widely in location and "quality" but look at the area on either side of I-75 between Golden Gate Parkway and Pine Ridge. Lots of big lots around there that aren't out in the boonies. Not sure about the specifics on building codes but I do know that it's not within the city limits.

What size home are you looking for?  That will dictate alot also for your budget.

Altair Gun Club if you want to shoot outdoors from a holster .They also have 2 rifle ranges . One is 165 yards and the other is 1000 meters with steel targets at every 100 .
On the long range they also have a 30 ft tower that you can shoot from .
For transfers I use Naples Guns And Ammo . $25.00 transfers and he is also a NFA dealer .

I looked yesterday, looked at 5 homes a little west of I-75 (I think the area is referred to as Golden Gates).  All from 350k-450k, one was an absolutely dump & way the hell out off Immokalee Blvd (cheapest), 1 was a perfect home (updated, 2,000sq ft), however the next door neighbor didn't keep up their home and had a dog they left outside programmed to bark every 2-3 seconds, no thank you (it seemed too good to be true for,the price and it was).  I saw 3 more from 425k-450k, all would be acceptable all three ranged from 1600-2600 sq feet, small one had some really nice features to the property but I think 1,600 is a tight squeeze, one was a little over 2,000sq feet and pretty much what I was looking for overall.

I'm trying to stay under 500k, I have no doubt I will get approved for more, but I'm just coming out of residency training & I'm not trying to stretch my budget, I wanna pay off the student loans.  What do you think of the Golden Gates area overall?  I kinda liked it, seemed kinda country without being too far from civilization.

Golden Gate area can be a crap shoot since there are no HOA's, there are good & bad to HOA's in my opinion.  We have a friend who lives out that way.  It takes her 30+ minutes to get to RT75. due to traffic.  It is kinda country, but to get anywhere or even go shopping can make for a long affair depending on time of day and traffic.  My wife & I looked at that area but felt the drive would wear on us, more for work than anything.  I don't feel like sitting in traffic forever to move a 100'.  Plus you could have nice kept up home around you, but when they sell and the new owners don't upkeep or have the barking dog, then what????

Jimmy P's is your friend.  Great butcher and steak house.  Get the Wagyu sirloin.  Trust me.
Cosmos Pizza is awesome for Italian.  Ask for Gianluca, tell him Dr. Bill and Charlie are your friends.  You'll be hugged.

Fernandez and the Bull for Cuban.  The special with beans, rice, and fried plantains, and coffee.  Their hot sauce is killer.

Prestons for a $300 steak date - it's stupid good

Stoney's Steakhouse for $200 steak and seafood date - take a piss if you've never pissed into a waterfall

Pastrami Dan's if you miss NY/NJ - bring cash

Randy's Fish for fish.  There are other places...but they suck.  Just go to Randy's unless you caught it.  Deep water is 30+ miles off shore on the west coast.

For Booze - Costco.   Best wine and booze selection around and since it's Naples the employ a wine sommelier.  Yes, his name is Mark.

In a generalization, the city of Golden Gate is a no-go but the Golden Gate Estates are okay. As you found, your experience can vary widely  street-to-street.

Estates ain't too bad. They bust a grow house once in a while but other crime seems low.

Gotta be a place there on a couple of acres with good neighbors.
