I'm making the move from a state unfriendly to all of my hobbies, and my wallet, to a better one. I'm currently shopping for a ranch/farm in central/north Florida. Planning on purchasing a home with a minimum of 20 acres to have my own range and space/privacy for my other hobbies.
I have a couple questions. I'll obviously be in rural areas, so not worried about bad city neighborhoods. But, are there any counties or specific areas to avoid? Also, anyone know a decent mortgage broker in the area? I'm currently at my parent's winter place in the villages, so I have plenty of time to look and find the right place. |

Can't speak for anyone else but Polk County has tons of land and a Sheriff that isn't afraid to tell criminals that they risk getting shot by his citizens if they try to break in. YMMV - I'm sure a lot of folks can offer lots of suggestions. |

You can take my spot, the wife has decided we're moving to South Carolina.
I can only speak to Hernando County, specifically Spring Hill/Brooksville, so I'm not much help. If you take my spot you have to agree to vote correctly, otherwise the other guys here will escort you back where you came from. |

Hah, I don't think anyone on this forum would be upset how I vote. I'm used to living in a state where my vote never has any meaning.
Thanks for all of the input. Of course I'll have to get the opinion of my future wife on my final property choice, too. She might want to be closer to at least a small town for groceries, etc. |

Mortgage brokers in Orlando.
Scott Stinson FBC Mortgage. RP funding- will match interest rates. Use Zillow mortgage to get rates and take to them to beat. I have used both with RP funding being used on my last refinance. Also let us know when you get your range setup. You can host the central Florida Meetup. |

I'd be looking to the east of Monticello, north of Ocala, west of Jacksonville... Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, Suwannee, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, Columbia, Hamilton, Baker, counties for a nice place to settle. Of course that also depends on the job situation and school needs. |

I found an interesting place in Brooksville, anyone have any specific recommendations/concerns for this area? Also, anyone have any recommendations for a good home inspector in hernando county? Brooksville can be hit or miss depending on the area. There are some very nice subdivisions in the area, but in town can be dicey. When we bought 3 years or so ago we hired Thomas Home inspections, and were very happy with the thoroughness of their report. We received a binder full of pictures etc that was very informative. I can IM you the contact info for them if you want. |

Its off of 98 near Hill 'n Dale. |

SC here we come! Potential buyer just backed out, so my house is still available. |
