So about a year and a half ago, we had to get a new AC unit put in my house.  They changed the tonnage to account for what was possibly the wrong size with the initial setup.  I never recall having a humid feeling in the house with the old setup, but kinda did with this one.  I started getting a persistent cough for the past few months and thought to check the indoor humidity to see if maybe mold was an issue.  The cheap digital meter from Home Depot says that it's averaging low to mid 60% and I have a really cheap analog meter that says the same.  I know it's kinda bad now with mild temps and high outdoor humidity so the AC isn't running much and taking water out, but if any of you guys have meters, what are you showing in this weather?  Are my readings way on the ridiculous side for a humid Florida winter?  I'm in the Tampa area for comparisons.  Thanks in advance.  I really wanna know if a need for a dehumidifier is in my future.

I know a few people who have had their AC units replaced and in each scenario they were told their original AC units were too small.
Not sure if this is their way to put in a larger unit to make more money, but the downside to owning a bigger unit is not getting the humidity removed.
Not sure where you are located, but I am in the central Florida area and little to no humidity in a while and the AC unit hasn't run but once or twice in the past few weeks.

I have a gauge in the safe for humidity and will take it out and leave it in the house for a reading and post back later today.

Edited:
Well, safe to say the gauge is no longer working as it reads 100%. Time to pick up a new one.

Possible causes.

1. Oversizing the unit means it runs less, therefore the humidity is higher.

2. Now you have a more efficiency unit that run less, higher humidity.

3. Light load but humidity is high and unit runs less, higher humidity.

4. Thermostat set at?

5. Don't run fan on constant.

6. Recently in Tampa humidity has been high compared to load.

You can install a humid stat that will run the ac when needed.

I'm just a ways south of you and my humidity level inside is 44% right now...and it's 98% outside (I didn't think the outside one was right but weatherchannel.com says it's 99% ).

76?

I would melt.

Turn the A/C on.

Thanks for the input.  I'll keep an eye on things and see what happens if we get some warmer days where the unit runs more constant.

Keep mine at 75 degrees.
It regulates the humidity keeping it down in the 40% or lower range.
Pretty comfortable honestly, and keeps the bill down.

i don't have air, or heat. whatever the humidity level is outside, is what's going on inside. i do keep some damp-rids in the safes, along with small tower fans and uv light  conditioned air can be directly correlated to the fall of mankind.

Funny this was posted.  This past weekend I noticed my house was very humid.  Went to the AC and "someone" had put the fan "on" instead of "auto".  Turned it back to auto and the humidity dropped after a few AC cycles.  I guess some drunk idiot on NYE must have set the fan to on.....
